Two-Ways to Give this Season… For the Buckingham Community
Holiday Giving Program at Buckingham
Dear Parents & Students
Beginning November 28th, the Buckingham Giving Tree will be on display in the hallway nearest the main office. The Giving Tree will have tags on it that display the names of holiday gifts that can be donated for local families in need this holiday season. We invite our Buckingham Students to choose a tag if they wish & purchase the gift needed. We ask that you wrap the gift and be sure to secure the tag to the outside of the gift wrap. All gifts should be delivered to school by December 16th to ensure holiday delivery. Please deliver your gifts to the main office.
Questions….Please contact Bryan Rosica at brosica@cbsd.org
Buckingham's Annual Turkey Toss
Please support our Annual “Turkey Toss” by donating to this worthy cause. Students will be participating in this wonderful activity during all gym classes the week of December 5th-9th. This project will help provide a beautiful holiday dinner for some of our families experiencing financial hardships this year. Thank you for considering.

NAESP - Report to Parents: Tips on Gift-Giving and Receiving (For Kids)
We are coming into what many of us consider "The Holiday Season", one of THE favorite times of the year for my family and me. As the children get older, it seems the things they wish for get smaller and about quadruple the price. Plus, we try to focus on some of the ideas written in this article about being appreciative and thankful, what it means to give to others, and understanding how a wish list is not a guarantee list. This edition of Report to Parents: Tips on Gift-Giving and Receiving focuses on approaches parents might take communicating with their children during the Holidays.
"With the major holidays approaching, parents face two challenges: first, how to find the perfect presents for their children—the gifts that will be loved for years, not just hours—and perhaps more importantly, how to make sure their children are kind and grateful recipients, no matter what they get. Here are some ideas to try."

School Happenings
5th Grade Ropes Course Field Trip
Over the course of two-days, Buckingham's 5th Graders experienced this message as they attended our annual Elbow Lane High Ropes Course. The students experienced Adventures in Education which is designed to improve teamwork and cooperation, life skill development and self esteem through hands-on, highly experiential "fun" activities. Day one Low Ropes program is based on the individual's actions and how those actions affect the group or persons around them. Day two involved the High Ropes experience characterized by individuals challenging their own "perceived limits", setting goals, dealing with fears, safe risk taking and commitment when decisions are made. The students really seemed to enjoy the opportunity and they faced challenges with each step!
Buckingham Young Authors - Michael Buckley - Author Visits Intermediate Students
On Thursday, December 1st, Children’s Literature Author - Michael Buckley (N.E.R.D.S. & The Sisters Grimm Series) - came to Buckingham to present for our Young Authors Assembly to Grades 3-6. He shared about his background and career in comedy & TV - and how it led to his eventual passion for becoming a children’s book author.
Students enjoyed Mr. Buckley’s humorous stories and life experiences that led up to his career decisions. As Mr. Buckley said, “ My biggest job is to have an exciting and full life so that I have interesting ideas to bring to my readers!” We thank him for inspiring the young writers and readers at Buckingham by showing them how the power of a piece of writing can change the day or even the life of a reader!
Mighty "Night" at the Movies / Parent Speaker
On Friday, November 18th, Buckingham Elementary hosted Mighty "Night" at the Movies for all students featuring The Incredibles. Students brought their comfy clothes, sleeping bags and snacks as hey enjoyed the Disney Animated Feature.
At the same time, Parents had the opportunity to attend a special Focus Speaker Forum on Emotion Regulation in Children - presented by the Center for Psychology & Counseling. The certified psychologists provided in-depth discussion about self-regulation techniques when responding to an emotional situation - and how to best respond/react in socially accepted ways if something occurs causing a wide-range of feelings or thoughts.

1st Grade's Howell Living History Farm Field Trip
First graders enjoyed a day at the Howell Living History Farm as part of their Collecting and Examining Life Science Unit and our Families of the Past Social Studies Unit. The Howell Living History Farm preserves and interprets farming life and processes from the era of 1890-1910. Our students were "put-to-work" taking on the role of farmer’s children while they learned about the importance of corn to the farm’s livelihood. Students went out into the fields to harvest corn, shelled the kernels and ground the corn by hand - each helping bake a loaf of corn bread in a fully-functioning 1900's kitchen!

6th Grade Students "Service Learning" for Grundy Hall & The Bucks County Housing Group
Over Thanksgiving Holiday, Buckingham 6th Grades worked on their Annual Community Service-Learning Projects for Grundy Hall and The Bucks County Housing Group.
Leading-up to the Holiday, 6th graders decorated "Breakfast Bags" and filled them with treats including oatmeal, crackers, tea, and hot chocolate - in addition to student-poems. Then, on November 23rd, students volunteered their time on their first day-off to personally knock on over 150 doors hand-delivering the "bags" and provide a hearty Happy Thanksgiving greeting to the residents of Grundy Hall, Doylestown.
Later, through the generous support of Shop Rite of Warminster (Cowhey Family Food Store) and our "Mighty Night at the Movies" canned food drive, Buckingham students donated pounds and pounds of food to the Bucks County Housing Group. Students then worked together to take food from the cars and Shop Rite truck into the Housing Group's pantry; working through muscle fatigue to bring wholesome food to others!
Thanks to Shop Rite of Warminster and the 6th Grade families-students-teachers for your generosity - helping Buckingham Elementary spread some holiday cheer this November!
