St Jude School

Weekly Update
We look forward to your continued participation in our Mass celebrations. Ms. Bickett and Mrs. Tollett introduced the newly formed Service Council and had them take an oath in front of their fellow students. We welcome the opportunity to work with you to achieve your mission of service to others in and around the St. Jude Community.
I had a lot of very excited yet, tired Browns fans not to mention a few extremely disappointed Indians fans. Cleveland is nationally known for the very best fans in all the land with unwavering loyalty. Sounds like my staff, students, and parents, I am feeling grateful today and every day for all your support of St. Jude School.
Many blessing,
Mrs. Hibler
What's for Lunch?
The PACTT Parent Night scheduled on Sept. 27th has been CHANGED
Attention Primary Families: Rather than asking families to attend Saint Jude School that evening, we will come to YOU through a webinar. This will be a prerecorded event and you can watch this session from your own home! On Sept. 27th, an email will be sent to you, with a link to access our Youtube video of PACTT Parent Night Presentation. You can view it as many times as you desire.
Your child's PACTT folder will be sent home on Sept. 27. You will want to have the folder handy while watching the video as we make a number of references to items specific to the folder.
Lastly, please feel free to email teachers with any questions! We understand that family time is valuable, and we hope that this new format is welcomed!

Brief Reminder
Parents: we love having you be part of our faith-filled community. If you come in to have lunch with your child, please refrain from sharing any food with other students. We have many children who are not allowed to have certain foods due to parent choice, and when you share just that one french fry, it could affect that child in ways you are not aware.

Take the Night off from Cooking
Our Macro Pizza "Take the Night off from Cooking" on Wednesday, September 19th earned a profit of $252 for St. Jude PTO. The top three classrooms were Mrs. Pallardy, Mrs. Leonowich, and Mrs. Tollett. Each won a dress down day for their entire class. These dates will be selected by the individual classrooms and communicated to the parents. Nice job!
Save the Date, the Book Fair is Coming
Dear Parents and Families: Mark your calendar to join us for a celebration of reading! The Scholastic Book Fair returns to the Library on Monday, October 1st – Friday, October 5th. Did you know that reading just 20 minutes a day exposes your child to about 1.8 million words per year? Reading helps students develop a stronger vocabulary, and also, students who read for pleasure average higher grades in English, mathematics, science, and history!
Visit scholastic.com/fair for more information. You can also order online, and the books will be shipped free to the school!
Grandfriends Day Mass-October 5th
Introduction Jave Programming Class Offered
This year, we will be partnering with the Digital Academy team to bring an "Introduction to Java Programming" class to St. Jude School.
Pat Connor (Digital Academy) will be leading the class via video conferencing from St. Ignatius. Three additional schools will be participating with St. Jude and utilizing video conferencing and real-time screen sharing. Our Technology teacher, Mr. Hopiard, will be onsite managing and assisting the St. Jude students.
We are looking for programming-minded students who are serious about exploring a career in computer programming, or who have a significant interest in computers. The classes themselves will be held after school on Wednesdays from 3-4 PM (starting next Wednesday, 9/26). Due to the speed and increasing complexity of the course, only children in 6th, 7th, and 8th grades may participate. The class size is limited and to the first 15 responses received. There is no charge for this offering.
We apologize for the short notice. We were just advised of the class opportunity and felt it was something worthwhile to offer to our students.
We look forward to bringing this new and exciting form of education to St. Jude!

Schoolwide Box Top collection begins
2018-19 Box Top Submission deadlines are November 1 and March 1, so please keep those dates in mind as there are expiration dates on the box tops. Class collections take place in October and February to prepare for these submission dates. Bundle if you can, in groups of 50 using an envelope or Ziploc type bag. There is a classroom contest for the most collected so makes sure homeroom number is on submissions. PTO appreciates family effort/support as the money earned for the school will help fund school projects and events.
