Words of Inspiration
“Gratitude can transform common days into thanksgivings, turn routine jobs into joy, and change ordinary opportunities into blessings.”
-William Arthur Ward
A Special Applause to...
I want to thank Amy Combs for leading the gratitude project. It made my day when a student who has been struggling, put a letter in my mailbox. It gave me hope that the work we do will make a difference in the lives of students.
Last week, I also got a note from a former student who was in my class when I taught. She shared with me how much impact I had on her as a teacher and how she is now going into the education field to make the same impact on the next generation of learners. It felt good to hear this. Working with students in the middle grades is tough because we often never know how they will turn out. You do amazing work with students everyday and rarely hear these positive stories. I am so proud to be your principal!
Last night, I got word that another former student of mine was lost. He was shot near the school where he went. Rashad had the biggest smile and always worked so hard. It doesn't make sense and I am asking what I'm sure his family is asking, “Why?” This is news that no educator ever wants to hear about a student.
I say all of this to say that we never know what is going to happen in life. There will be good and there will be bad. The leadership Amy showed to develop a process where students can let this amazing staff know how impactful they are feels good. As we approach Thanksgiving, I ask you to pause and reflect on what you are grateful for. There is so much to be grateful for at the Greene School. This entire school community, staff, students, and parents give me hope for our future: hope that I haven't always felt in this profession. I am grateful for that. I am grateful for the difficult work that you come to do everyday. I am grateful for all that your pour into our students; knowing that we may never know what that turns into as they grow beyond the walls of Greene and Sycamore. Enjoy the time off with family and friends: you deserve it!
