Wauwatosa Montessori School
September 17, 2021
Dear Families:
This week our classrooms spent time in their daily community meetings learning about the Amygdala and how it is group of cells deep within the center of the brain that controls your emotions. Students learned/reviewed the zones of regulation (image below) and how to identify or label how you are feeling and then progressed throughout the week with working on strategies to use for regulation within their classroom environments when in the various zones. The emphasis is that it is ok to be in any zone - your feelings are your feelings, but the most important thing is we are safe and we have tools and strategies for understanding our feelings, what they mean, and how to cope!
In the next two weeks, all district SK-8th grade students will participate in the Renaissance Star reading, math, and early literacy assessments to help determine each child’s current instructional needs. There is a more in-depth explanation letter that is attached to the blackboard email from today. Additionally, students that were in grades 3-8 during the 2020-2021 school year and took the state Forward Exam will receive their results report in the mail sometime next week.
Our first PTSA meeting is this upcoming Thursday, Sept. 23rd from 7-8:30pm. Here is the agenda for the meeting. There is an option to attend in person or via zoom. Link is on the agenda. Keep on the lookout for the PTSA School Spirit Wear sale that is coming soon!
Sincerely,
Ashley Imperiale
Principal
