Student Support After School Program Starts Dec. 5 (new)

Officer Tony Latas, BVN Student Resource Officer, and Sean Birdsong, BVN Student Support Liaison, will be running a Student Support After School program beginning next Monday December 5th. This program will run each Monday and Wednesday from 3-5 p.m. in room 602. We will use this time for students who are routinely waiting a few hours for rides after school, having any failing grades, and/or missing assignments that need to be completed.

This will also be a good opportunity for any students needing community service hours to come and assist. If your student is interested in volunteering in this opportunity, have them talk with Officer Latas, Mr. Birdsong or any BVN Administrator.

In addition, please reach out to Officer Latas, Mr. Birdsong, or any administrator if your student would benefit from this support program. Thank you!

Kansas Communities That Care Student Survey - 2023 (new)

Current Blue Valley students in 6th, 8th, 10th and 12th grades are invited to take the Kansas Communities That Care student survey in January 2023.

Blue Valley has participated in this survey for many years, and continued participation allows our staff to understand yearly trends, measuring the effect that our prevention and responsive programming has on our students.

The Kansas Communities That Care student survey is offered to schools across Kansas and is supported by Greenbush Education Service Center and the Kansas Department for Aging and Disability Services. The survey is built on a framework of prevention to support effective, evidence-based strategies in Kansas communities. The survey is voluntary, and parents or guardians must complete a form granting permission for their student to take the survey.

Questions for the Kansas Communities That Care Survey (KCTC Survey) can be found on the district website under “useful links.” Questions are related to substance use, school climate, bullying, depression, and suicide. The survey is completely anonymous, and no identifying student personal information is collected. The Blue Valley School District receives data summarized by school and our overall district results.

Permission for the Kansas Communities That Care survey can be entered in ParentVue until December 16, 2022. For questions related to the Kansas Communities That Care survey, please contact Mindy Wells, Coordinator of Student Support Services at mmwells02@bluevalleyk12.org or Adam Wade, Director of Academic Achievement & Accountability at awade@bluevalleyk12.org.

Did your student forget to take a daily morning medication before leaving for school?

If your student ever forgets to take a daily morning medication before coming to school, the parent may bring the medication to the school’s front office and the parent may dispense and give the student the medication. If the nurse is to give the medication it must be in the original prescription pill bottle accompanied by the signed physician’s medical order ( https://www.bluevalleyk12.org/cms/lib/ks02212623/Centricity/Domain/4486/Medication-Authorization.pdf ).
