In Case You Missed This...

Last year the Fine and Performing Arts department in Baldwin was brimming with talent. In case you missed some of the events, here are some highlights.

Anything Goes!

Once again our High School Students provided an absolutely wonderful musical experience at the Musical in November. Audiences were whisked aboard the luxury liner S.S. American for a madcap trip on the high seas during the Baldwin High School production of Anything Goes. The set was beautiful and performances were musical, comedic and delightful. Great Job!

This year the HS will be performing Shrek the Musical. To order your tickets, click here!

Play It Forward

BFOMA presented 4 instruments as part of our Play it Forward Program. This is an award that was started in 2011. Through the generosity of donors, we receive gently used instruments and our friends at New World Music, located on Grand Avenue, graciously tune up, clean and polish the instruments free of charge. The music students at the elementary level are given the opportunity to write an essay, explaining why they are deserving of this instrument. The student with the winning composition is then awarded the instrument, giving them the chance to own their own musical instrument.

This year we awarded the following instruments:

Sax - Christopher Stegmuller from Steele. His teacher is Mrs. Mutlu

Trumpet - Bryant Reyes Alvarez from Lenox. His teacher is Mr. Gordon

Drums - Miles Richardon also from Lenox.

Way To Go Mr. Dunn and Ms. Roof

The Baldwin High School Wind Symphony and band directors Scott Dunn and Kimberly Roof were specially invited to the College Band Directors National Association Eastern Division Conference on March 12. At the conference, Mr. Dunn and Ms. Roof presented a clinic on commissioning works for high school bands while the Wind Symphony performed three of their commissions. The students had the opportunity to be adjudicated and directed by university band directors Dr. Mark Scatterday from the Eastman School of Music, Mr. Glen Adsit from the Hartt School of Music, and Dr. Frank Ticheli, internationally renowned composer, and to meet and mingle with the Greater Hartford Youth Wind Ensemble. The Baldwin High School Symphony Band and Wind Symphony, under Mr. Dunn’s and Ms. Roof’s direction, have been performing commissioned works created by leading composers for the past ten years. The season concluded with a gala concert at the Adelphi University Performing Arts Center on Monday, June 13, at which the Wind Symphony performed a full length concert of music written for and dedicated to this fine ensemble.
