Way To Go Mr. Dunn and Ms. Roof
The Baldwin High School Wind Symphony and band directors Scott Dunn and Kimberly Roof were specially invited to the College Band Directors National Association Eastern Division Conference on March 12. At the conference, Mr. Dunn and Ms. Roof presented a clinic on commissioning works for high school bands while the Wind Symphony performed three of their commissions. The students had the opportunity to be adjudicated and directed by university band directors Dr. Mark Scatterday from the Eastman School of Music, Mr. Glen Adsit from the Hartt School of Music, and Dr. Frank Ticheli, internationally renowned composer, and to meet and mingle with the Greater Hartford Youth Wind Ensemble. The Baldwin High School Symphony Band and Wind Symphony, under Mr. Dunn’s and Ms. Roof’s direction, have been performing commissioned works created by leading composers for the past ten years. The season concluded with a gala concert at the Adelphi University Performing Arts Center on Monday, June 13, at which the Wind Symphony performed a full length concert of music written for and dedicated to this fine ensemble.
