Caitlin's Corner
Welcome to the Hedges Garden Corner!
The first snowfall marks the end of our garden season! We've got some tough kale and teeny carrots that are plowing through the weather changes but the tomatoes have since kaput.
Our harvest of the month vegetable is Kale! Each month a local vegetable is featured at least once in the lunchroom and education events around school celebrate the veggie.
This Tuesday students will have the chance to taste central kitchen kale chips and vote whether they loved, liked or tried them. Our kale is sourced locally from Terrapin Farm in Whitefish, MT. If you are interested in helping please email me at caitlin.coghlan@foodcorps.org.
Did you know that on average it takes ten times to try a new fruit or vegetable before kids and adults commit to eating a serving? Try kale at home in salads, soups or as chips.
