PROCRASTINATION
[PROH`KRAS`TUH`NEH`SHUHN]
We all do it. Avoiding a task in favor of doing something more enjoyable. What can we do to change this behavior?
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
*Problem focused and action oriented
*Distinguish between thoughts and feelings
*Become aware of the ways in which thoughts can influence feelings in ways that sometimes aren't helpful
*Learn about thoughts that seem to occur automatically, without even realizing how they may effect emotions
*Develop skills to notice, interrupt, and correct these biased thoughts independently
*CBT is the merging of cognitive therapy and behavior therapy
*Client and therapist work together to create goals
Similarities
*Client and therapist work together
*Treatment is often short term
*Homework assignments are often a part of the therapy
*Treatment is goal oriented and works step-by-step to achieve the goals
*Empowerment of the client to realize they are capable and able of making positive thoughts and behaviors
Behavioral Therapy
*Focus on specific learned behavior and how the environment has an impact on those behaviors
*Emphasis on how we are accidentally rewarded within our environment which can lead to an increase in the frequency of the behavior
*Therapists encourage clients to try new behaviors
