October 4, 2021
Happy October! We're a little over a month into school and we're really enjoying the growth we are seeing with students settling into their routines and becoming more comfortable in their new environment. We will continue this work heading towards our 'first six weeks of school' target of ensuring all students feel welcome, accepted, and respected.
This Tuesday, October 5th is an early release day across the district. This is an opportunity for Beal educators to participate in professional learning and continue to grow in their profession.
Beal will begin dismissal at 12:15 PM. For students riding the school bus, you should shift the time your child gets off the bus to 3 hours earlier, and please allow for some different mid-day traffic patterns. There is more information below regarding early release day specifics.
Have a great week and please stay dry! Go Patriots!
Sincerely,
Chris Girardi and Shelley Hoey

Sora
The media centers across the district would like to share that we have a K-12 subscription to an iPad app called SORA that provides access to ebooks and audiobooks that students can read or listen to on their iPads. SORA enables users to borrow up to 3 books at a time. Users can also place holds on an additional 3 books at a time.
Here is a video overview of SORA.
Here is the link to a step-by-step tutorial that explains how to get started using SORA on your child's iPad: https://bit.ly/2JZa2SZ

COVID-19 Testing Update
Shrewsbury Public Schools is partnering with the state COVID Testing Program to provide voluntary weekly COVID-19 testing and the Test and Stay option for close contacts at school. More details about these programs can be found on the SPS website here. Testing is voluntary and all staff and students are encouraged to participate. The required consent form can be found here.
The Test and Stay option is now available for individuals identified as close contacts to positive cases at school. More information will be provided by school nurses if your child is identified as a close contact at school and qualifies for Test and Stay. Close contacts to positive cases outside of school are not eligible to participate in Test and Stay and must quarantine per Massachusetts Department of Public Health guidelines.
The start date for Routine COVID Safety Check testing for students will be Tuesday September 28th (test kits will be sent home on Monday September 27th) and will continue weekly. More information regarding test distribution and collection will be provided prior to that time.
