From the Principal's Desk
Dear Glen Grove Families,
It is our last day of school – virtual school, that is - before a long winter break, and with Zoom fatigue being a very real “thing” for adults and children alike, (Zoom fatigue is real and our kids are feeling it) the upcoming two weeks will be a wonderful opportunity for our staff and students to enjoy a much-needed rest from Zooming and the structure of online school.
Before this year, the last day before winter break would have looked and felt much different. There would have been happy, laughing, noisy children more than just a little ramped up in anticipation of their upcoming winter break, smiling parents – lots of them – in and out of the front office bearing gifts for teachers and carrying bags of crafts and games in preparation for the classroom parties they so thoughtfully planned, and a general hustle and bustle creating a palpable energy of excitement and joy in the air. We ALL miss that.
Having said that, as I sit in my unusually still office today, I can’t help but feel grateful. This school year, we have changed course numerous times, starting remotely in August, moving to a hybrid model on September 29, back to remote on November 30, and now anxiously awaiting a return to hybrid on January 19. The constant transitions have challenged everyone – staff, parents, and children, so in this final newsletter of 2020, I want to express my gratitude for your continued support. Despite conflicting information in the media, so many uncertainties, and the stress that comes with constantly needing to make decisions that potentially impact the safety of your families, you have adapted and re-adapted to the circumstances, and you have helped your children help us keep them connected to their teachers, to one another, and to our school. For this, I sincerely thank you.
On behalf of all of us at Glen Grove, I would like to wish you a peaceful and safe winter break, and despite the limitations that COVID has put on us, I hope you will be able to be with family and friends, whether virtually or face-to-face, in the spirit of love that characterizes the holiday season! I end by saying that I am filled with hope for the new year, so here’s to a Happy and Very Welcome 2021!
Respectfully,
Helena Vena

Mandatory Health Forms for 2021-2022 Incoming 6th Graders
Health Office Information
Students requiring any medications during school hours must file an "Authorization & Permission for Administration of Medicine" form with the health office. This form requires a physician’s signature as well as a parent’s signature. This form can be found here, under the Health section on the Forms & Documents page on the district website. All medication brought to school must be in an appropriately labeled pharmacy container. This also includes over-the-counter medicine such as Tylenol, Advil, cough drops, etc.
All student absences should be called into the health office at (847) 657-2394! In addition, please call if you will be bringing your child in late or picking them up early. The school has voicemail so parents can call the health office to leave messages at any time.

When your child comes to Glen Grove,
the student self-assessment needs to be completed BEFORE YOUR STUDENT LEAVES FOR SCHOOL so that it shows up in our system by the time your child arrives.
Thank you in advance - this eliminates the need for your child to stand in line unnecessarily!
Log in to District 34's PowerSchool web portal before leaving for school, to complete the self-certification tool for each student who is attending school in person.
Click on the SUBMIT SELF-ASSESSMENT link on the home page to submit your child’s temperature and answer questions about COVID-19 symptoms and exposure. Click submit. If you have multiple students in District 34 attending in person on the same day, click on each student to fill out the self-assessment for them as well.

When students arrive at school, the school staff will scan their ipad barcode or bus pass barcode to confirm completion of the self-certification process.

Please be sure to send your child to school with their iPad, water bottle and mask.
Masks are required at all times when students are in our buildings. The District has provided cloth masks for every student and staff member; disposable masks will be available in our buildings for those who need them.
If your child rides the bus, they must wear their mask and remain in their assigned seat.
Thank you for helping to keep our school safe!
