Principal's Message
Dear Adelante Selby Spanish Immersion families,
I hope everyone is well and staying safe. Incredibly, the end of the school year is upon us! We have been through so much this past year as a school community. I want to thank all of the parents, community volunteers, and the Unidos Parent Teacher Organization for the incredible support and love you showered upon us to make this a successful year! THANK YOU! In case you did not see our Staff "Gracias Unidos PTO Video" already, here is the link again: "Gracias Unidos PTO y Voluntarios"
All parents/guardians please be aware that we will be collecting all of the District Technology devices(iPads, Chromebooks, Hot Spots, and chargers)that students have been using on the last day of school: Thursday, June 10th.
Some of you have been asking if your child can access some of our online learning tools like RAZkids and iReady over the Summer? The good news is that students can still use Clever to access Learning A-Z/RAZkids, iReady, and other applications. We recommend that families bookmark the district Clever page on your home devices BEFORE students return the district i-Pads and Chromebooks. It is important to test it out to see if it works on the home devices before Summer vacation starts. Families can find Clever at www.rcsdk8.net/clever. It's a good idea to write down your child's User name(the student's kids.rcsdk8.net address) and password or they can also use their Clever Badge to be able to log in with Clever.
We are expecting that all students will return to In-Person learning with our normal school schedule for next school year(Distance Learning will not be an option). If you are moving and your child will not be returning to our school, please call the office or email me. We are already creating balanced classes for next year and need accurate numbers of students.
Please note that I have attached a "Draft" School Calendar for next year below(a few of the community events have not been approved yet by Unidos PTO). Parents please make your family travel/vacation plans according to the district vacations so your child does not miss school. You will receive the Final Calendar with the MAZE day packet in the first week of August.
I wish everyone a great and relaxing Summer vacation!
After School Program 2021-2022:
We anticipate a large demand for the After School Programs for next school year. Unfortunately, there will be limited spaces and families should understand that enrollment is not guaranteed (the selection will be based on a lottery). REACH will continue to be the largest provider with up to 200 students in K-5th grades. Here are the links to the REACH Registration which begins tomorrow, Tuesday, June 1st at 9:00am: Kindergarten ; First-Fifth grades
We are happy to report that YMCA will also be returning to provide AfterSchool Care for 50-60 K-2nd graders. We are also pleased that Siena Youth Center will also be an after school care option for families off campus for 50 1st-5th grades. We will send out the registration forms as soon as they are finalized.
School Mascot Update:
The School Site Council will be meeting this Wednesday, June 2nd to approve the final School Mascot vote and our new mascot. The Mascot Committee gave consideration to mascots that met at least one of the following criteria:
-
That reflect Adelante Selby Spanish Immersion school culture and identity.
-
That reflects the community/area that Adelante Selby serves or are found in the geographic or school area.
-
That represents our school colors.
The School Mascot Committee narrowed down the selection to 5 choices:
- Los Alebrijes(Eagles/Jaguar mixture)
- Los ColibrÃs (Hummingbirds)
- Los Leónes (Lions)
- Los Osos (Bears)
- Los Tecolotes (Owls)
We will let you know which one is our new school mascot soon!
COVID-19 Update
As most of you are already aware, San Mateo County is in the less restrictive Yellow Tier of COVID-19 cases and The San Mateo County Office of Education (SMCOE) recently updated its Pandemic Recovery Framework for Schools. The updated document includes public health guidance around physical distancing, travel, individuals identified as close contacts, and graduations. This change from 6 feet to 3 feet means that we can accept more than 15 students at a time in classrooms. Recently, the CDC has made some big changes regarding fully vaccinated adults not having to wear masks. However, at school all in-person students, staff, and visitors are still expected to wear masks until further notice.
3rd, 4th, and 5th grade In-Person learning students will be tested for COVID-19 tomorrow(Tuesday, June 1st) with our school nurses here on campus. TK-2nd grade in-Person students need to come with a parent for COVID-19 testing this Wednesday, June 2nd between 9:00-3:00pm through the Front Parking Lot.
Social Emotional Learning:
Adelante Selby Community we have attached all of the ABC lessons from Project Cornerstone at the bottom of this newsletter. Please feel free to watch some of the videos and complete some of the activities with your family over this Summer vacation.
