Sand Ridge "Shark Bites" Update
May 15, 2022 - Issue #32
Happy Sunday Afternoon Shark Families!
Last week was a busy, busy week and it was just wonderful! Below you will find some photos of some of the great things that went on last week!
- Our Fun Run fundraiser was a HUGE success, with over $16,000 being raised for Sand Ridge Elementary. After this week's School Leadership Team Meeting, we should be able to announce a solid amount of funding for a second playground area. This is very, very exciting news!
- We sent our largest group of runners to the Spring 5k race in Jacksonville. In addition to our awesome Girls on the Run and STRIDE student runners, we had staff, parents and friends serving as running buddies and a large cheering section. Over 200 Sharks in all!
- Spring Book Fair ended on Friday and it was also a wonderful success. We were able to pull together an evening for extended hours for parents and families and that was very well attended.
- Lastly, we inducted the newest members of our chapter of the National Elementary Honor Society on Tuesday Night at a lovely ceremony. We are very proud of these scholars and can't wait to see how they impact Sand Ridge throughout the rest of this year and into next school year.
The Big excitement this week is FIELD DAY! Field Day will be Thursday, May 19th, with a rain date of Friday, May 20th. Parents are welcome to come and watch the festivities from designated viewing areas. Details and specific grade level times will be sent home on Monday. Thank you to those who signed up to volunteer on Thursday. Between our parent volunteers and our Marine Corps volunteers, we have a good size group to help make this day a wonderful success for our students.
Planning for the End-of-Year Celebrations in Kindergarten and Fifth grade are underway. Invitations for each will be going out shortly. The schedule for each of the days is as follows:
Kindergarten Completion Ceremonies - by class on Monday, June 6 in the auditorium
- Wales - 9:00
- Ramirez and Haraway - 10:00
- Castle - 11:00
- Barker - 12:00
- Bamber - 1:00
Fifth Grade Completion Ceremony - Tuesday, June 7 at 10:00 in the auditorium
Lastly, a reminder that in addition to all of the fun and special events of these last few weeks, there are also very important assessments and EOG testing. Please make sure your student is at school everyday, unless they are ill, prepared to learn.
Here's to another great week at Sand Ridge! Thank you to our Shark families for your continued support!

Girls on the Run and STRIDE Run a Great Race!
Saturday morning, the Girls on the Run and STRIDE teams from Sand Ridge Elementary ran the 5k race in Jacksonville. It was a great morning for a race! This was the largest collective team (girls and boys) we have sent. These students and their dedicated coaches and running buddies have been training for months and a great time was had by everyone!
We were so pleased by the number of parents, staff, and friends that were there to cheer our Sharks on. Last count was over 200 people were there to run with them or cheer them on!
In addition to a great day overall, some of our runners placed in their age divisions. Congratulations to Mrs. Whalen and Ms. Anguaino who each placed third in their age groups, and a HUGE congratulations to Karter Scanlon, who placed first in his age group!

Although the rain moved our Fun Run itself inside, we still had a blast with the Glo-Run!!
CONGRATULATIONS to Mrs. Ramirez and her kindergarten class for having the highest overall per lap pledges and for winning the big contest of the week!

National Elementary Honor Society Induction Ceremony
On Tuesday, May 10, 2022, seventeen fourth and fifth grade students were inducted into the Sand Ridge Elementary Chapter of the National Elementary Honor Society. Membership in NEHS is based upon scholarship, leadership skills, service, and character. Students must complete the application process and meet criteria in each of these areas. NEHS has been at Sand Ridge Elementary since 2015 and we are proud to carry on the tradition.
