This event is cultural genocide an is led by a leader named Girolamo Savonarola. Savonarola became ruler of Florence, he then declared the syphilis epidemic sweeping. He was marked the height of his activities as agitator ( André ). He burned thousands of objects deemed to be associated with vanities, temptation and sin. It was seen as a religious act, as a cleaning of the soul and a rejection of worldly pleasure (This day in history). After St. Bernardino opened the practice of "temptation- inducting" items to turn catholic adherents towards faith. Parishioners of friar Girolamo Savonarola launched one of the largest bonfires of the vanitys on Feb 7, 1497. This took place during the Italian Renaissance in Florence(Mengele). Through out the 1400's, the city's of euroope engaged in a slow process of awakening from middle ages(Mengele).

In 1497 The Auto Da Fe ( bonfire ) Of Vanities held at the annual Florence Carnival. Savonarola's supporters of this went on frequent devastating rampages destroying anything that did not confirm to Savonarola militant ( André ). During this time he targeted and made jokes about poetry that was about sexuality. He had pointed out how he disliked homosexuals and made this statement clear ( Cavendisn ).In my topic on The Bonfire Of The Vanities Girolamo Savonarola was the ruler who took down religious faiths, objects of culture, and other groups of people or subjects that he disproved of(Cavendish). He had created horrible parades but forcing people and little children to take all objects that did not conform to Savonarola’s militant. Thirteen hundred of These children went marching from each house demanded and took the luxuries of the world {silk cloths, musical instraments, carpet, and editioons of the decamerone sweet cakes and paintings with nude pictures} They also went peeking in windows to report people's eating pastries rich gravies or other delicate(André). Each ideam that was took was muchly treasured and they were burned in a pile of everyones thing(André). After this Painters were to paint Saint's, The Virgin Mary, and Christ only. If not it was took and they were burned or hung(André). When the ruling medici dynasty was overtrown in 1494, His popularity fell away at an astounding rate afterwards, and the folllowing year he was excommunicated and executed(The History Channle).
