Coming to America: The Story of Immigration
The Picture Book, Coming to America explains several important times in history when many different people from several various cultures migrated to different places in search for a better life. The illustrations add depth to the text and give a great visual representation of what the words are saying. It explains how America has been considered “The Great Melting Pot” because so many different cultures and nationalities have been blended together. In the back of the book it includes a table of dates that are important times in immigration to America and other places.

GOP Cares a Lot Less About Immigration Than Donald Trump Says
This web based article from NBC News discusses how immigration is being discussed by Donald Trump and several of his supporters. It explains that in the past they have mentioned building a wall to keep immigrants from being able to enter America and not allowing the Muslim people to enter at all. By including this article that discusses current politics it will be a great starting point for discussion with students about both sides of immigration.
BrainPop.com: Immigration Video
This video discusses the controversy that faces America today because of the issues with immigration. Tim and Moby discuss some of the past history with immigration and current concerns. There is also a quiz that students are able to complete after they have finished watching the video. It would be a great tool to use to measure comprehension of the topic and video.
