What's Happening in Specials?
In art, kindergarteners are using drawing and printmaking skills to create a collage. 1st grade students are creating different textures using oil pastels and sponge painting techniques. 2nd and 3rd graders are weaving using paper and yarn . 4th grade students are learning about balance and creating different types of insects using symmetry and chalk pastels. 5th grade is painting paper that will be used for a collage demonstrating positive and negative space
Library
During library time, students will continue to gain exposure to the Bluebonnet Books for this year and will be able to vote for their favorite Bluebonnet Book once they have read 5 books from the list. Students will also participate in Read Across America activities and will continue to explore our Maker Space tools.
PE
Students are learning to jump rope and are working on jump rope tricks. Also, students are working on their goals for pacers, push ups and sit ups and signing their goal sheets when they meet their goals. Third grade is prepping for their upcoming program to feature jump rope and drum fit.
Computer
Students will practice typing and computer skills each day and will work on creating their own book using Book Creator.
Music
Kindergarten: Students are working on steady beat, playing instruments in groups, and locomotor movement. Students use these skills to accompany folk songs.
1st Grade: Students are deriving rhythms using quarter notes and barred eighth notes. They are also playing partner games to reinforce these skills.
2nd Grade: Students are working on our locomotor and non-locomotor skills by learning a Swedish circle dance called the Fjaskern.
3rd and 4th Grades: Students are reinforcing rhythm counting skills as well as reading notes on the treble clef staff by working in stations. These stations include: Treble Clef Twister, Rhythm Blocks, Glockenspiel Station, Staff Spelling, and Rhythm Memory.
5th Grade: Students discovered the different characteristics, and timbres of the 4 instrument families. We concluded our study with a trip to see a live performance by the Houston Symphony.
