From The Principal's Desk
Greetings North Wales Families,
We had a great week! Happy Lunar New Year! Over the next few weeks our students will learn about the traditions and celebrations that take place during the Lunar New Year. Our Select Choir students did an amazing job performing at the Choral Showcase last week at the high school. Thank you to Mrs. Calveresi, our students and parents for your dedication to the arts.
Just a reminder please check out the lost and found slideshow. We have quite a few unclaimed jackets and sweatshirts in there.
Monday is a spirit day. Please have students wear red to kick of Lunar New Year!
Friday is an Eagles spirit day. Wear your Eagles gear or colors!
I am looking forward to another great week!
Warmly,
Ms. Dana Kenney
Principal

Sixth Graders –
Do YOU want to design thecover for your 6th gradeyearbook?
Please submit your entry by Jan. 31, 2023.
We encourage all sixth graders interested in designing a cover for your yearbook to submit a design.
You and your classmates will vote for the top two designs. These designs will be used on the front and back cover of the yearbook. We will try to include the other submissions inside the yearbook.
● Create your cover with lots of imagination and color!
● Use a normal sheet of paper (8.5 x 11), no lines please.
● Must be vertical!
● Leave one-quarter inch margin on all sides for scanning.
● Heavier paper is best but not necessary.
● Try to incorporate a theme into your design.
● Consider incorporating "Class of 2023" however it's not required. ● Print your name on the back to allow for fair voting.
● Have fun!
Design a cover that shows what North Wales Elementary means to you and your classmates!

Sandy Our Therapy Dog is Here!
We are so excited to welcome our new staff member, our therapy dog Sandy! The plan at North Wales is for the therapy dog to support individual students, small group sessions, as well as visit specific classrooms. Please know that all therapy dogs have been individually trained and certified to provide emotional support, comfort, therapeutic benefits, emotional well-being or companionship to students. Further, therapy dogs are up-to-date on their vaccinations and immunizations. They are also clean, well-groomed, and housebroken.
If you wish for your child to not interact with the therapy dog, please complete the Google Form below.
Cultural Highlights For The Week
Lunar New Year - Sunday, January 22, 2023
January 22, 2023 marks the first day of the year 4721 on the Chinese calendar.
‘Guo Nian Hao’ (pronounced gor nee-an how) means Happy New Year!
More than 2 billion people worldwide will celebrate the Lunar New Year this year- which is approximately 20% of the world’s population.
Each animal in the Chinese zodiac is said to have certain characteristics and personality traits that a person born in that year would also demonstrate.
London, San Francisco, Sydney, New York, Vancouver and Los Angeles have the largest Lunar New Year celebrations outside of Asia.
Foods typically eaten include spring rolls, dumplings, noodles, steamed fish or chicken and rice cakes. Each dish has a special meaning. For example, long noodles cannot be broken or cut because they are a symbol of long life.
Red envelopes are traditionally given to children by their parents and anyone who is unmarried- even if they are 40 years old!
