DISTRICT PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT DAY A SUCCESS
Averill Park Central School District held its professional development day, AP Transforms, for faculty and staff. Keynote speaker George Couros started the day off with an inspiring speech that focused on innovation and having a student-first mindset. Couros challenged teachers to go beyond their comfort zone and embrace new technology and social media platforms. Read more here.
CROSS COUNTRY TEAM DELIVERS ENCOURAGEMENT
The Averill Park girls cross country team ran (in the rain!) to West Sand Lake Elementary to deliver empowering quotes and inspire each girl on the WSL Girls on the Run team to reach for their dreams and never give up!
RESEARCHING MOBILE ROBOTS WITH A DRONE
Ben Campbell sent his drone above the high school as part of his Computer Integrated Manufacturing (CIM) project. He was researching on Mobile Robots!
BRYANNA SWINSON NAMED SCHOLAR ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Congratulations to Bryanna Swinson for being named Scholar Athlete of the Week by Spectrum News! Bryanna, a senior, is a five-year varsity soccer player and two-year captain. NYS Senator Daphne Jordan presented Bryanna with the award.
STATISTICS CLASS VISITS METLIFE STADIUM
High School students taking Statistics visited MetLife Stadium on Thursday for Sports Business Day! Students had the opportunity to listen to speakers, visit locker rooms, the press box and even walk around the field!
PES KICKS OFF BOOSTERTHON FUN RUN WITH PEP RALLY
Poestenskill Elementary kicked off the Boosterthon Fun Run with a pep rally. The PTA-sponsored event helps raise money for enrichment programs for the school. It also helps to build a strong sense of community in our school!
WSL HOLDS PEACE DAY ASSEMBLY
West Sand Lake held its first school-wide assembly of the 2019-2020 school year celebrating Peace Day. During the assembly we shared pictures of each grade level making a human peace sign and a video showing students' thoughts on what Peace means to them!
MHSL K-KIDS HOLD FIRST MEETING
The Miller Hill-Sand Lake Elementary K-Kids held a successful first meeting of the school year! Their new motto for this year will be "WAKE UP-BE KIND-REPEAT." Read more here.
STUDENTS USE PHOTOGRAPHY TO EXPLORE INDOOR, OUTDOOR SPACES
Arts Letters & Numbers presents Voices in the Woods, a workshop for Averill Park Central School District students using photography to explore indoor and outdoor spaces. Read more here.
AMS SHOWCASES OPPORTUNITIES WITH CLUB FAIR
Algonquin Middle School held its Club Fair on Thursday, Oct. 10, showcasing all of the great opportunities that are available to students. This is a great way for the students to explore what is offered at AMS and could unlock a life-long passion!
AMS VISITS THACHER PARK
This week, students from Algonquin Middle School visited Thacher Park, which has geological and historical exhibits for visitors to enjoy! Thacher Park has one of the richest fossil-bearing formations in the world!
AUTHOR VISITS ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS
Author Eric Litwin visited the Elementary Schools recently. Students loved his presentation! Mr. Litwin is the original author of Pete the Cat, The Nuts and Groovy Joe.
NEWS 10 INTERVIEWS STUDENTS, STAFF FOR BIG GAME, PINK OUT
News10 stopped by campus to preview the varsity football team's game against Troy. The news team also talked to students and staff about the Pink Out and how students are joining together to tackle cancer!
PHOTO BOOTH A HIT AT MHSL OPEN HOUSE
Students and parents from Mrs. Jeschke’s class at Miller Hill-Sand Lake Elementary hopped in the 5th grade photo booth at Open House! The Open House was one of the most widely-attended ones in recent years.
ALUMNI WATCH: WINKLER COMPETES IN QATAR
Rudy Winkler (Class of 2013) placed 11th in the Hammer Throw at the IAAF World Championships in Qatar this week. Winkler tossed 75.2 meters against the best athletes in the world in the finals. During the qualifiers, he threw a personal best 77.06 meters (252 feet)!
ALUMNI WATCH: DAN RYAN GRADUATES BOOT CAMP
On Friday, Oct. 4, Daniel Ryan (Class of 2019) graduated from the United States Marine Corps Boot Camp. Way to go Daniel and good luck!
CHASE SHEPARD HEADS INTO THE MARINE CORPS
Chase Shepard (Class of 2020) has enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. Semper Fidelis!
SHARPEFINNIAS EFFECT FUNDRAISER IS BACK IN ACTION
The Sharpefinnias Effect is back in action this year! This is a recycling fundraiser that supports Camp Abilities, an educational sports camp for young people with visual impairments.
ATHLETIC HALL OF FAME ACCEPTING NOMINATIONS FOR 2020 CLASS

HOMECOMING TO HONOR FORMER TEAM MEMBERS
Be sure to come to homecoming on Oct. 18! We will be honoring former players, coaches, staff members and cheerleaders who have been a part of the program since its inception in 1944 during a special halftime ceremony.
