Catholic School Week is upon us! So much planning has been done and a bounty of fun is scheduled for next week. The National Theme for Catholic Schools Week is EXCELLENCE FAITH SERVICE. We have a number of things planned around this theme. Thank you for your generosity towards the veterans and nursing home residents. Thank you for having faith in our teachers and staff to provide wonderful learning experiences for our students. Thank you for being models of faith for each other as we all strive to live as Christians in today’s world.

As we go into Catholic Schools Week, I would like to ask each of you to talk to your children about kindness, mercy, and forgiveness. I have had to speak to several groups of students about the way they talk to each other and about each other, and when necessary I call parents to discuss behaviors of specific occasions.

The Gospel calls for us to love one another as God has loved us. Jesus loved the sinners, the outcasts and the ‘different’. At St. Gertrude school, we do not tolerate name calling, curse words, or deliberate bullying of anyone. Most of the time our students are very good examples of being a Catholic Christian, however we all need reminders from time to time and so I am asking for your help and example.

We will be celebrating Catholic Schools Week January 31 - February 5. A list of daily themes and activities is attached below. Field day t-shirts will be given out on Monday, February 1. These shirts will be worn for various activities throughout the rest of the year.
