From the Desk of Mr. Curtis Price
“When people are determined, they can overcome anything,” Nelson Mandela once said. This phrase epitomized what our coaches and student-athletes have gone through during the fall season. With all the changes to schedules, our student-athletes and coaches still had many accomplishments during the fall season.
The girls tennis team made significant progress throughout the season. The team competed at the Antioch Sectional, where our #2 doubles team, Tess Meisner and Bethany Noonan, made it to the quarterfinals. Also, the girls JV team won the Grant Invitational.
The girls golf team came in second place at the Johnsburg Regional. With the help of three senior student-athletes, who would have otherwise been playing volleyball, the team earned a trip to the Seneca Sectional. The team was led by Lauren McNulty who received all-conference and all-state honors. I would like to thank our girls golf coach, Erin Carver, who is retiring from coaching after 30 years at Marian Central. Words cannot express how much I appreciate the job Coach Carver has done for Marian Central Athletics.
In boys golf, Owen Jager advanced to the Freeport Sectional.
Marian Central’s only swimmer, Tessa Jones, had an impressive showing during the Highland Park Sectional, where she finished top 10 in three events.
The boys cross country team had two student-athletes, Cohen Musschoot (frosh/soph) and Peter Walsdorf (varsity), take first place at the East Suburban Catholic Conference Championship. Peter blew away the competition at the Lakes Sectional, winning by more than 40 seconds. He is the first undefeated boys cross country runner in Marian Central’s history.
From the girls cross-country team, Caroline Binotti persevered throughout the season, competed at the Lakes Sectional, and made the ESCC All-Conference Team.
It was enjoyable to watch our coaches and student-athletes compete during the fall season. Thank you to our coaches and student-athletes for providing us a glimpse of normalcy during the fall season.
We also need to recognize our off-season coaches and student-athletes, who continue to prepare for their seasons. They followed every protocol and were diligent in providing a safe environment for our student-athletes.
I would like to thank all the senior student-athletes who competed during the fall season. Your hard work and dedication to Marian Central Athletics is truly appreciated. I wish you all nothing but the best as you continue on to the next phase of your journey.
