Great Moments in Hot Bev History
Hot cocoa is the fuel of explorers. Doubt me? Ask British Explorer Robert Falcon Scott (sidenote: How do you get FALCON as a middle name?!). During his yearlong trek to the South Pole, Scott's team subsisted largely on hot cocoa. Of course, we know Roald Amundsen for discovering the South Pole because his group packed five times as much cocoa. He got there first and safely returned, unlike Scott's expedition.
And decades later, another group crossed Antarctica on the heels of over 2000 packets of hot cocoa. Thanks to Mental Floss for this insane info!
Grab your own mug of it while you try to plant your flag. Bring your own mug for free hot bevs tomorrow starting at 9 AM!

Honors Connect Service Mentor Application Now Available! - Deadline is March 11, Interviews 16 and 17
The purpose of this week is to:
1. use a service learning model to educate students on social issues of inequity and inequality, using the particular context and challenges of our local community. Proposed focus areas include: food, education, and health/wellness;
2. instill/continue an ethic of service early in the college career;
3. model effective citizenship and leadership in one's community; and
4. develop cultural understanding through opportunities that stretch a student to move across social, economic, and cultural boundaries.
Mentors should possess an ethic of service, with clear commitment to working with Temple and Philadelphia. In addition, Mentors should demonstrate a desire to work with incoming Honors Program students to aid in the new students' transitions to both TU and the Honors Program.
Mentors will have the opportunity to establish relationships in the surrounding community, engage with the newest members of the Honors Program, and work closely with Honors Program staff and faculty. Mentors will be asked to move into their on- or off-campus housing prior to the start of the program.
Click here for more info and to apply! Sign up for an interview slot as well. Deadline to apply is March 11th and interviews will take place March 16 and 17 from 1-5 PM. Training will take place during April (we hope!).

Middle States Open Session for Students
Tuesday, February 28, 4-5 PM
Charles Library First Floor
Temple University is preparing for reaccreditation. The reaccreditation process involves a self-study and a campus visit from an evaluation team of peers from other institutions in the region, followed by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education's decision regarding Temple's accreditation status.
What does Middle States Reaccreditation mean?
Middle States' role is to assure students and the public of the educational quality of higher education. This is achieved through the accreditation process which helps colleges and universities demonstrate institutional accountability through a rigorous process of self-reflection and peer review.
Members of the university community are invited to meet with the visiting team. For more information and to register for the open session contact: msche20@temple.edu
