Your Mindful Brain
Ask your student about the 3 mindful parts of their brain. They might say, guard dog, wise owl or memory elephant. (Amygdala, Hippocampus, or Prefrontal cortex) We used the Mind-Up Curriculum to learn more. All students in grades K-3 have learned how our brain is wired to keep us safe, store our memories to help us learn, and make learner and leader decisions. We discussed how our amygdala keeps us safe. Our hippocampus is important in remembering—which helps us from one grade to the next. And our Prefrontal cortex helps us to make wise decisions. Each part is important in growing learners and leaders!
Fourth Graders will participate in these lessons next week, September 28-October 2.
Virtual Mindfulness Room
Mary Lee Maier Food Pantry is OPEN!
The Mary Lee Maier Community Pantry distributes food each Thursday from 5-6 pm (when school is in session). Food is distributed at Avon Intermediate School East in a drive through format to any Avon Community School family or employee who needs assistance with food. Follow the signs on the AIS East/West campus to the back of the schools; food is loaded into cars at AIS East door #13. Families will be asked to register once per school year and then check in each week that they shop. Families may also register ahead of time by filling out the online form linked below or on site registration is available. Registration needs to be completed once for the entire school year.
Questions? You may contact the pantry at mlmaierfoodpantry@gmail.com
