Notes from the Principaws #2 (Sept)
Mr. Vince Sette and Mrs. Nicole McQuate
9 Days Down and Much More Fun on the Way!
August has just sprinted past us to hand the baton to September. What a great 9 days we have had with the students and staff. Everyone needs to be congratulated for the changes, flexibility, and enthusiasm for an excellent start to the school year. Related services will begin the week of August 30th for our students.
The office is currently open from 7:30 am to 4:30 pm at the elementary.
Parents, please return all school forms ASAP. These are essential to ensure we have the most up-to-date information for your child. Thank you for your continued support in filling these forms out for us.

Tips for the Year from Mr. Sette
Norwayne Bobcats - Organized, Mindful and Scholarly!
Transportation Department at NES
The start of the school year has gone very well. Mrs. Weinman appreciates everyone's flexibility and patience with the routes. Bobcats please remember that masks MUST be worn while riding on school transportation. Please be sure to have your mask handy when entering the bus.
The Transportation Department requires that students be picked up at the same location Monday through Friday and dropped off at the same location Monday through Friday.
While a pick-up and drop-off point may be different, they must remain consistent.
For example, a student may have a pick-up located at their home address Monday through Friday and be dropped off Monday through Friday at a different address.
Student requests to ride home in the afternoon with another student, or an alternate stop will no longer be allowed.
DAY-TO-DAY CHANGES OR MULTIPLE STOPS WILL NOT BE ALLOWED!!
This change went into effect on November 1, 2011.
If you have any questions, you may reach out to Lori Weinman (Transportation Coordinator) via email or phone call (330-435-1141).
Student Handbook Talking Points
- If your child has a fever they must remain out of school for a minimum of 48 hours. They are able to return after these days as long as the last 24 hours they were fever-free without the aid of fever-reducing medication.
DRESS CODE REMINDER
- Tank tops, muscle shirts, bare midriffs, or sleeveless shirts are NOT permitted. Also, socks are to be worn at ALL times, even with sandals.
Volunteers Needed for Bob's Food Stand @ the Wayne County Fair
Volunteering would entail taking orders, taking money, giving people their food, and getting drinks. Volunteers will not be asked to grill or make the food. Bob's Food Stand is the one right next to Lerch's donuts beside the Grandstand. The money raised that day goes towards 1 month or more of food for the program.
Shift #1 = 4:30 pm to 8:00 pm
Shift #2 = 7:30 pm to 10:30 pm
2021-2022 NES BREAKFAST and LUNCHES
Norwayne Masks Update as of August 31, 2021
- For the 2021-2022 school year, students/families will have the option to choose what they would like to do with mask-wearing when on Norwayne grounds.
- The one exception remains with bus transportation. Students will be required to wear masks while being transported on school busses.
****Please note that we can update the mask stance at any time as we continue to listen and follow mandates from the governor and health departments as new information is made available during the pandemic.
We thank everyone so much for helping comply with all the changes that have taken place. Together we can accomplish so much and continue to make Norwayne amazing!
SEPTEMBER STAFF SPOTLIGHT
Mrs. Albaugh
- I've worked for Norwayne Schools for 9 years.
- I love getting to interact with all of the great students and staff each day!
- When Mr. Dreher dressed up as a cheerleader for Halloween.
- Be honest, be kind, and always do your best.
Mrs. Beichler
I have been at Norwayne for 10 years.
- I love my job because kindergarten is magical! Kindergarteners make me laugh EVERYDAY! I enjoy their innocence and love of school!
- Our kindergarten team did the diet coke/mentos explosion with our classes and we had lots of early explosions! The four of us were running away, "SCREAMING", getting sprayed with Coke, and the kids were laughing & loving it!
- Be Kind. Work Hard. Have Fun!
Mrs. Deiotte
- I am starting my 23rd year at Norwayne.
- I love when I see the kids collaborating together with smiles on their faces. It excites me when they are excited about what they are learning.
- When we were still at Burbank Elementary, our whole teaching team had to color our hair bright pink when we passed the proficiency tests.
- In 5th grade, when we don't first succeed, we say "we've got grit, we won't quit." If failure is a part of learning, don't let it defeat you.
NEW Parent Drop Off and Pick Up for 2021-2022
A few important notes for morning drop off:
The first 2 and half weeks of school have been amazing. Our morning drop-off routine is running very smoothly. Thank you to Officer Hartman and the parents for hopping on the double line-up system allowing us to get more cars in the loop and away from Route 3.
- Students being dropped off or riding their bikes will be allowed to enter the building at 8:40 am, as we did last year. They will not be permitted to stand outside and wait for the cafeteria doors to open.
- During the morning drop-off time, when exiting the parking lot, cars will only be allowed to make a right-hand turn. This is something we did last year, and it helped reduce the congestion and improve the flow of traffic.
- We ask that you do not park in the drop-off loop. If you need to park to bring something to the office or walk your child to the door, this needs to occur in the parking spaces. This way, the loop will not become clogged as it is a single-car loop.
- Students are able to exit their cars only if they are parked along the curb. Please do not get out of the car in the grass at this time. Use the crosswalk as the cut-off for now.
- Please make sure to pull all the way up so we can ensure we get as many cars on the curb as possible.
A few important notes for parent pick up:
We would like the parents to know we appreciate your patience in the afternoon as the afternoon pick-up crew works tirelessly to ensure we have a quick, efficient, and above all else safe system in place for the children. We are averaging 70+ cars at the end of the day can you believe that!
- Pick-up will occur as it has in the past, except for the one-direction loop we will now have.
- We ask parents to remain in their cars as staff will walk students to their cars to ensure safety.
- During pick-up times, cars will only be able to make a right-hand turn when exiting the parking lot. Again this helps with reducing congestion and improving the flow of traffic.
- As you drive by the crosswalk please have your window down to let Mrs. Knight or one of the other workers know who you are there to pick up.
- We appreciate the parents working quickly to help buckle their children.
