The Ritenour Review
2016 - 2017 Third Grade Weekly News
Fun in the Class
- Reading: We talked about using professional vocabulary when we research or read informational texts. The kids loved using the specific lingo! We also talked a lot about 'digging for gold' in our reading. We are not always going to love the topics we are given in school or the books we pick up; however, we can choose to find the happiness and look for those golden topics.
- Math: We finished up our fractions unit and the class tested Wednesday. Due to ISTEP this coming week, we did not start our next unit, we will wait until after Math ISTEP is over.
- Science: We are in the middle of our plant unit! In reading, we are researching plants, so we are using our science block to learn more about the parts to every plant and debunk a lot of misconceptions about plants.
The big one: ISTEP. ISTEP is everyday this week. We will have math ISTEP on Monday and Tuesday. We will have English Language Arts Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. All tests will be first thing in the morning.
Language Arts: We will continue researching our plant groups with book clubs and work on parts of speech in language arts.
Math: Unit 8: Multiplication and Division
Word Study: We will work on a sort this week in class, but I will not test on Friday. They have enough on their minds for ISTEP. I still want to work on some spelling patterns in class.
