Congratulations Volunteers of the Month:

*Allison Brownlee, Meg Jordan & Jennifer Smith*

Allison & Meg served as the 7th grade chairs this year. In August, they hosted a very successful and fun social event for students. They have already been preparing for their role as 8th grade chairs next year by actively attending meetings and learning as much as possible so they can coordinate next year's dance. WOW! Both ladies have helped with many other PTA events including carnation sales and Fun Food Days.

Jennifer has organized volunteers for the workroom whenever they were needed this year. She also volunteered on our nominating committee and at most PTA events consistently helping where it was needed.

Thank you for everything ladies!

All PTA members are invited to attend our meeting on Friday, May 5 at 10:30 am in the LGI.

This is the last PTA General Membership Meeting for the 22-23 school year.

We will also vote on next year's budget.

Current 5th grade parents/incoming 6th grade are welcome to attend as well.

TEACHER APPRECIATION LUNCHEON

Thank you to all the families who contributed a lunch, desserts, drinks, or their time to make our teachers' day extra memorable.

Your PTA also delivered the "Star Notes" written by parents and students. We know your sweet words brightened their day.

Thank you to Jessica Manske and Kimberly Rasberry from our Hospitality crew for their time and dedication to making this day a success.

8th Grade tickets: *tomorrow* last day to purchase!

Advocacy/Legislative Update:

On Thursday, the "Texas House Committee on Public Education" heard House Bill #4402 and House Bill #4514.

Both bills improve the public school assessment and accountability system by limiting the effect of STAAR tests on school district and campus A-F ratings.

The bills also added new non-STAAR indicators to the A-F rating calculations in order to paint a more holistic picture of school quality.

Please find attached a sample script to give you an idea on what to say if you decide to call your representative.

Once again, Thank you Volunteers!

Last Friday we attended the Annual VIPS Celebration. The district celebrated ALL volunteers, together with the Volunteers of the Year from every campus. Geoff Blum, Major League Baseball Veteran, Houston Astros TV color analyst and Katy ISD Dad, was the keynote speaker.

Among those who attended, we had our school Principal, Mr. Moussavi, 6th Grade AP Mr. Daniels, BDJH PTA volunteers & this year's VOY Nominees.

We would like to thank them once again for their time and dedication.

Here are just a few of the nice things people said about our Nominees:

Kathleen Brennen: "Kathleen served as our PTA Advocacy chair this year. She went to Austin and attended Rally Day with several others and brought back so much valuable information for parents. She has been especially helpful during lunches as students redeemed their PBIS points, worked as a cashier during Fun Food Fridays and has worked countless hours creating the wall of fame for the 8th Grade Dance."

Kate Clark: "Kate served by herself this year as the 8th Grade Chair. This was no small task! She has overseen 8th grade shirt sales, an 8th grade social event over the summer, carnation sales and the upcoming 8th Grade Dance. Kate has also worked consistently on all PTA events and especially with Fun Food Friday sales."

Michelle Hodges: "Michelle served as the 6th Grade chair this year. She oversaw a 6th grade social event over the summer. Michelle is always ready to help where help is needed and was instrumental as students redeemed their PBIS points and at Fun Food Fridays. Michelle also served on the nominating committee and helped with decorating the school in December."

Michelle Keyes: "Michelle is the PTA Secretary for our board. She keeps everything in order... meeting minutes, training certificates, plans of work and so much more.

Michelle consistently puts herself forward to volunteer at all school related events when she can. She is eager to learn and lead others. This year, she volunteered to co-chair 8th Grade Carnation sales even though she has a 7th grader."

Gretchen Smith: "Gretchen was originally slated as the 6th Grade co-chair but graciously stepped in to take on the enormous position of Treasurer whilst already holding the Treasurer position at RAE! Gretchen has such integrity and commitment to the school. She ensures all volunteers are informed and takes the time to explain processes. She is highly dependable, respectful of others and her input is crucial to the success of BDJH PTA."
