How camp life changed people

Camp life changed prisoners as people because they had to adopt a lifestyle of every man providing only for himself. It changed families because many times family members went rogue or took advantage of trusting family members to benefit themselves.

What this reveals about me

This reveals that we live in a time and place very different from Holocaust-era Europe as we don't have to worry about not surviving another week. It awakens me to how fortunate I am to not be subject to deportation and a gas chamber.

Themes

1. Survival: Eli must try to survive the harsh conditions at Buna and Gleiwitz.

2. Family: Eli has to try to support his father until the very end.

3. Death: Eli must face death as everyone he has come to know perishes around him.
