Special Services Update - May 16, 2022
ESY/Compensatory
It is crucial ALL ESY supplements are completed and all students ARDed for ESY or Compensatory are known by Kalli Wakefield. If you have any students that may be ARDed for ESY or compensatory that do not currently have a current ESY supplement or are placed on the compensatory list, please let Kalli Wakefield know immediately.
As a reminder, ESY will run from June 13 – 23rd and July 11th – 21st from 8:30 – 11:30. Compensatory services will be offered the same weeks but in the afternoons from 11:30 – 3:30 PM.

The pay for summer positions has been increased by 20% for this year and is now open to outside applicants!

Checklist to review Before Exiting Students from Special Education
"If a student with a disability shows signs of no longer needing special education or related services to obtain a meaningful educational benefit, an IEP team should follow its instincts and exit the student. The student has to undergo a reevaluation in all areas of suspected disability. 34 CFR 300.305 (e). Special education directors should confirm teams use the following checklist to ensure they review all sources of data before making a decision with parents about the student's eligibility."

CASE FILE: Benefits of private dyslexia school won't nullify district's offer of FAPE
"A parent's belief that a private special education school best fit the needs of an elementary school student with dyslexia and ADHD did not allow her to recover the cost of that program from a Virginia district. Holding that the district offered the student FAPE in the least restrictive environment, the District Court upheld an IHO's decision at 79 IDELR 28 that denied the parent's request for tuition reimbursement."
