Safety and Security
Last week in our school newsletters we provided resources and information to help our students cope with possible trauma and fear regarding the recent events in the Oshkosh and Waukesha school districts. Our student services team is always available to support students and families. The safety, social and emotional well-being of our students is of utmost importance.
This week, I want to share with you the safety and security measures the School District of Beloit has implemented to create a safe learning environment for our students.
Within our district we have three School Resource Officers and 10 Security Guards. City-wide radio communication is established at each school building allowing instant notification of an incident to police and fire. All school buildings are locked and require an access-controlled entry. Visitors are required to sign-in and wear a visitor badge at all times. Schools are equipped with security cameras, which are actively monitored.
The School District of Beloit has a long standing and strong working relationship with the Beloit Police and Fire Departments. We continue to collaborate and train with these first responders on best practices and responses to school emergencies to ensure the safety of our students and staff at all times.
Our staff is trained and prepared in trauma response and emergency procedures. Drills and trainings cover emergencies, safety, medical, weather, fire, and soft and hard lock-downs. Classroom discussions and drills are intended to prepare staff and students for any type of emergency. We again are thankful for the training and support provided by the Beloit Police and Fire Departments.
Our Director of Security, Mr. Todd EndI, encourages parents/guardians to have conversations with their students regarding school and personal safety. He recommends, "if you see something, say something." Together we can continue to work to keep all our students safe at school and in the community.
Should you have any questions or need additional information, please contact your building principal or student services staff.
Sincerely,
Dr. Stanley Munro
Superintendent, School District of Beloit
