Week at a Glance

Marian Central Catholic High School Faculty Newsletter

Reflecting on the past week...

This past week was full of amazing talent, pride, and commitment to our school!

Marian's annual Open House Sunday, Nov. 17 saw over 40 families including several families who were new to our databases! We are very appreciative of all staff and students who came to "show off" what Marian Central has to offer prospective students.

The Marian Department Chair Committee met this past Monday, and then again with administration this past Thursday, focused on improving student attendance and clarifying policies and procedures regarding absences. If you have any ideas or suggestions, see you department chair or email administration. Thanks for your continued persistence and support of our school and, specifically, our students!

Tuesday brought our annual Hurricane Days into the forefront... focusing on student assistance, athletics, & Fine Arts. A HUGE shout out to Kaitlin Bordeaux who has done a fabulous job pushing out the message on social media! There were several testimonials from students as well as images of students and Marian staff that are alumni of our school! Sounds like up to this point we have just about reached $10,000 in donations! You can still donate at www.marian.com/hurricaneday

Hopefully you had a chance to see the Theater class workshop production of The Bully Plays. Students (both seasoned and brand new to the stage) presented a variety of vignettes on the various ways bullying rears it's ugly head in today's society. The production was first performed for just over 500 middle school students (both public & private) on Thursday during the school day, concluding in a brief open mic to respond to middle school student questions about bullying, the production, and being at Marian in general. (Great opportunity to "sell" Marian... and our students did great!) The production was then opened up to family, friends, and the general public on Friday night. A big thank you to Mrs. Connell for guiding our students to be role models to those younger than themselves!

Finally, we had a beautiful Thanksgiving mass this past Friday. A big thanks to Father for his relevant and powerful homilies each mass... and thanks to Deacon Robinson for assisting! Please also recognize our servers and musicians.... as they add so much to the ambiance of the mass!

What a powerful week!

What's coming up?

This week will be relatively calm as students and staff look forward to a well-deserved long Thanksgiving weekend. Monday & Tuesday will be regular academic days, but remember that Wednesday will be shortened to a noon dismissal with no lunch service.

Our student council is planning their annual "Adopt-A-Family" event for this Christmas season. All proceeds from the Drive will go to purchase Christmas gifts for needy families in our community.

Students AND faculty and staff can dress down on Monday, December 2nd IF they make at least a $5 donation to the Drive next week.

- Students can donate this Mon. & Tues. Nov. 25 & 26 in the cafeteria at all lunch periods

- Staff can donate Mon. & Tues. by bringing their donation to the Guidance Office

LET'S REACH 100% PARTICIPATION!

Events coming up the week of Dec. 2nd:

Many juniors will be participating in the Junior Kairos Retreat Wed. Dec. 4 through Fri. Dec. 6. Retreat leaders (a select group of seniors) will be leaving Tuesday after school and be gone through Friday as well. A full student list (both participants and leaders) will be sent out prior to the event.

A couple of things to note about retreats:

- Students (both participants and leaders) are to stay in "retreat mode" during the entire event and therefore should not be expected to do homework or submit work during the retreat days.

- Attendance will be marked as "rt" for retreat for your convenience

- These students should get 1 day make up for each day gone on retreat

**Please pray for these students throughout their retreat

Late Start Wed., Dec. 4 An agenda will be sent out prior to the late start, but please anticipate beginning the meeting promptly at 7:30 am in the cafeteria before breaking out to our PLCs.

High School Placement Test (HSPT) for the Class of 2024~

Saturday, Dec. 7, future Marian students will be coming to our cafeteria to take their HSPT. This test will allow administration to more accurately place these students in their freshmen classes based on their test results, as well as other pertinent data from their middle schools.

Full-length ACT practice test

While prospective freshmen are testing in the cafeteria, our current students will have the opportunity to take a full-length ACT practice test and get their results same day! Thanks to the Guidance department for providing this free opportunity!

We will not be having another Week at a Glance edition until December 7th... so enjoy your Thanksgiving weekend with family & friends!

Big picture

Congratulations Janelle & Siobhan!

Our Cafeteria Staff is So Talented!

Pam Pecoraro, a member of the Marian kitchen staff, made a Marian Central gingerbread house! It will be entered in the Friends of the Old Courthouse Gingerbread Competition where it will be judged between Nov. 25 & 27. There will also be a people's choice award at the Lighting of the Square ceremony on Nov. 29 from 4-9 pm. Come out and vote for Pam's entry!
