Baskin Bulletin: Level Up, Game On!
September 6-10, 2021
Week 5
Baskin Family,
I hope you had a wonderful 3 day weekend!I am so impressed every day by the sheer tenacity of each of you to keep things as normal as possible for each other and for our students.
As I planned and prepared for this year, I didn't envision that COVID would be as rampant as it is now. I didn't envision having to deal with mask drama, all the work and time involved with contact tracing, and the large number of students that would need to be quarantined each week. I have times during the week where I am completely caught in the COVID whirlpool. :-(
This year has been difficult...our students have social and emotional trauma, they have large academic gaps, we have students that have severe behaviors, and yet through it all....we are trying to keep things normal and continue to create lesson plans, teach, assess, collect data, follow schedules, etc.
In the midst of it all, please have grace. Perhaps you are upset about something and the easy thing to do is rant on social media. Perhaps you feel overwhelmed and the easy thing to do is turn and look the other way instead of helping out where you normally would. Perhaps you feel tired or hungry and the easy thing to do is just be in a bad mood. All these examples are things I have done or felt at some point this year. Unfortunately, I learned, it doesn't make anything better.
Things are better though when I have grace, stop and think, put my mood aside and just help out wherever and whenever I can. I am asking us all to have grace and choose kindness, even when we are tired, overwhelmed, or frustrated.
I appreciate the work you do and the attempt to keep things normal, but as things continue to be the "new normal", please have grace with our students, our parents, each other, and yourself. Our job is a marathon, not a sprint. Pace yourself. Remember your WHY!
Let's have a great week 5! :-)
Kudos

Also, when you send down the attendance cards and you know of any students that are in quarantine, please indicate it on the card. Parents get frustrated that we are calling asking why the child is absent, when the nurse sent the child home.
Thank you.
