Learner Profile of the Month: Open-minded
December- Open-minded
As a PVMS Family, we focus on a different Learner Profile (a trait that we strive to display to become the best people possible) every month. For December, we are focusing on being Open-minded. We are Open-minded when we understand and appreciate our own cultures and personal histories and are open to the perspectives, values and traditions of others. PVMS staff members have green #IBSTRONG tickets that they are giving out throughout the month to students who are displaying that they are Open-minded. Teachers will also be choosing students for “Student of the Month” who are an example to others in exemplifying that they are Open-minded. We encourage students to wear green every Friday during December to represent our Learner Profile of the month.
You will see signs displaying the Learner Profiles throughout the school. The profiles are also posted above the white board in each classroom. Teachers have a second set of magnetic Learner Profiles that will make it easier to highlight which Profiles are relevant to the current classroom activity.

Flu Vaccine Clinic- 12/14/2018
Pasco County Schools will again partner with Healthy Schools, LLC, and the Florida Department of Health in Pasco to administer no-cost flu shots to students. The PVMS clinic will be held December 14th. The flu vaccine is free under most insurance plans, so while this clinic may be convenient, it is very late into flu season. If you choose to vaccinate, we encourage you to seek out the vaccine as soon as possible, but if you are unable, we hope that this will provide the opportunity to vaccinate your student.
The 2017-2018 flu season was the worst in a decade, resulting in school closures, high rates of hospitalization, and pediatric death. Be a flu fighter, and protect your child against the flu this season.
Learn more & sign up by December 12th at the following link: https://secure.caredox.com/c/signup/organization_groups/1430?authorization_id=118221&type=flu&utm_source=link&utm_campaign=flu&utm_term=pascoflu&utm_content=

Planner Tip of the Month- Concepts
A HUGE thank you to Advantage Real Estate Services, True North Counseling Services, and Weld-Rite Hitch Co. for your financial support with our fantastic new planners! Make sure you check our their advertisements on the inside cover!
Our fourth tip highlights the key and related concepts on pg. 9 of your child's planner. The key concepts are the overarching learning that your child will do throughout his or her time at PVMS. The key concepts are very broad and designed to encourage interdisciplinary learning. The related concepts are content specific and designed to complement the key concepts in the statement of inquiry, which is what guides the learning in each MYP unit.
Please continue to encourage your child to write in his or her planner in every class every day. It's a great life skill that connects beautifully with the Approaches to Learning (ATL) skills that are featured on pages 2-6 of the planner. As you look through the ATL skills in the planner, you might find yourself saying, "I do that all the time!" and "My child really needs to learn how to do that!" and "I wish that someone had taught me how to do that in school- it's a great life skill!". That's what ATL skills are- skills that students need to be successful not only in school, but in life as well. The teaching of these skills takes place through the context of the eight subject areas and are embedded into the teaching and learning in the classroom.
If your child misplaces this great resource, the replacement cost is $5 while supplies last.
