Message from the Nurse's Office
Sweethearts and Heroes
On March 10th we will be hosting a new and exciting cultural arts program for our 7th grade students entitled Sweethearts & Heroes. The program will have two presenters, Tom and Rick, who provide an energetic and interactive presentation focusing on bystanders and empowering them to make a difference. The crux of the Sweethearts and Heroes presentation is five specific “Bully Buttons” that combine to form a call to action against bullying. Also, at many Sweethearts and Heroes presentations, Rick, a retired sergeant with the U.S. Army injured in Iraq with burns over most of his body, gives a message about overcoming adversity and turning a negative situation into a positive one.
After the general assembly, there will be a two breakout sessions of roughly 25 students running simultaneously. Tom will run an empathy circle, and Rick will have a Q&A. Please use this form to identify students who would benefit from either breakout session.
Finally, our faculty meeting will be dedicated to continuing this training with the Sweethearts & Heroes team. The schedule will be as follows:
12:00 -1:30 presentation in the auditorium
1:50 - 2:30 breakout sessions with Tom & Rick (location TBD)
2:40 Faculty Meeting
16th annual Math Fun Night
On behalf of the Math Honor Society of Smithtown High School West, we would like to cordially invite you to attend our 16th annual Math Fun Night event at Smithtown High School West on Thursday, March 19th from 6:30 to 8:30 pm. This annual event has been organized to demonstrate the ubiquitous use of mathematics in our world. By presenting mathematics to elementary and middle school students from the entire district through recreational hands-on activities, we hope to foster a greater appreciation for mathematics in their future studies. Students who attend will solve and create logic puzzles, use and interact with computer simulations, and build models to better understand the principles of mathematics.
This year’s event has grown to include exhibits on the math and science behind pendulums, phone books, mirrors, eggs, and golf. Bolstered by the outstanding support and enthusiasm of the elementary and middle school faculties, we look forward to a well-attended, fun-filled evening for everyone! Please join us in our exploration and celebration of the amazing field of mathematics!

The Teacher Center is pleased to announce the recipients of this year's Torch Award!
