UPDATES & REMINDERS
MONDAY, AUGUST 27th IS INDEPENDENCE DAY @ CANNON!
-
All of our Cannon Cubs will be declared "Independent" and will walk to class on their own in the morning! Parents will be asked to drop off students in the front drive, and/or say goodbye at the front doors! Staff will be stationed around the building to ensure that all students arrive safely to their designated spaces! Thanks for your help to encourage courageous independence in our Cubs!
LABEL EVERYTHING PLEASE!
- We need your help! In order for us to help ensure that any misplaced or lost items get back to their rightful owner, please label everything! Backpacks, lunch boxes, jackets/sweatshirts, EVERYTHING! Take a moment to write your child's first & last name on items with a permanent marker right away. Thank you!!
MORNING DROP-OFF REMINDERS
- All parents who drop off students in the morning are doing a GREAT job! Please remember to pull all the way through in the morning before stopping to drop off your child. When parents stop at the front doors, it creates a large backup in our morning traffic and helps ensure that all of our students unload safely & efficiently!
REMINDERS FROM NURSE KENDRA
- Our wonderful school nurse, Kendra Consilio, has provided this Welcome Back From the Nurse letter for all parents. Please take a few moments to read over these important reminders from Nurse Kendra about medications, illness & absences, birthday treat policy, and more!
AttenDANCE PARTIES!
- We want to recognize and reward the students who have great attendance each nine weeks! Click here to read information from Mrs. Ricci, our assistant principal, about how YOUR child can participate in our AttenDANCE celebrations!!

HELLO FROM THE LEARNING COMMONS!
Summer Reading
Our cubs did a great job reading over the summer as part of the Scholastic Summer Reading Challenge. In fact, we’ve had over 100,000 minutes of reading logged so far! If your students have any reading time they have not yet logged they still have time to get it in. The challenge ends August 31 so make sure they get credit for all the amazing reading they did by logging in to their Scholastic Summer Reading Challenge account and putting in their reading minutes. If you need help with login information contact me at kristi.wagner@gcisd.net. In September we will have a summer reading celebration for all students who participated in the challenge.
Dot Day and the September Book of the Month
Our September Book of the Month will be Keith Haring: The Boy Who Just Kept Drawing by Kay A.Haring. This inspiring story will also be the focus of our Dot Day celebration during the month. For information on Dot Day and our book of the month, watch the following video:
GCISD Reads 2018-2019 Kickoff
It’s time to start a fresh reading challenge! The beauty of this challenge is that all the reading students did over the summer counts! For information about the challenge watch the following video:
