Briar Rose is a thoughtful novel that tells the story not only of Gemma and the Jews taken to the camps, but about the Pink Triangle Laws and the homosexual males that were scorned by the Nazis. The gypsies, Jehovah's Witnesses, and all the other outcasts were sent ensembled to extermination camps, such as Chelmno. Also, this story is about a young women named Becca who learns about her grandmother and finds her innerself in the process. Briar Rose takes place during a time when the Soviet Union was still solidified, exemplifying distance and despair.

Briar Rose is a young adult novel written by American author JaneĀ Yolen, published in 1992. The book was published as part of the Fairy Tale Series "Sleeping Beauty" of novels compiled by terri Windelling. The book won the annual Mythopoeic SocietyFantasy Award for Adult Literature in 1993.
