Ethridge World News and Updates!
Upcoming Events & Info from Principal Thompson
Message from the Principals
September is half gone and we already are preparing for the End of the 9 Weeks in early October! Can you believe it??
Now that we are well underway and it looks like we really are going to be able to do school a little bit more like we used to, we want to ask you to please do your VOLY background check if you are interested in chaperoning or volunteering. Yes, we are still proceeding with caution, but it's time to also gear up for field trips if allowed!! How exciting is that?!! Thanks to some of our wonderful PTA parents for asking to volunteer to help when needed!
Along with the fun, there also has to be a few policy reminders. As we watch our children grow, I want to remind everyone that clothing does not! LOL! Shorts have gotten shorter and so have some dresses. Please make sure that your kiddo's clothing is appropriate for school according to our district dress code. I do ask our young ladies, even though it is the style in HS and College, to not wear overly long shirts as it looks like they don't have pants on. We appreciate your support with this!
Thank you for taking time to look through our Ethridge World Tour newsletter!

ART at Ethridge takes on a Chihuly look to it!
Did you know that Mrs. Lentz, our amazing Art teacher was awarded an LEF grant to help with some of the supplies our students will need for incredible artistic creations by our K-5 students?
Mrs. Lentz has provided a link to watch an awesome video about Dale Chihuly, the artist inspiration for the Lef grant "Transforming through Chihuly". The project’s theme, in the words of Mrs. Lentz, "is based around the dichotomy of how we as a whole have changed through the pandemic, changed yet beautiful and how the artist Dale Chihuly transforms sand, silica and breath into amazing works of glass art despite the many life challenges that could have stopped him. It is a bonus effect of changing recyclables like plastic water bottles, cups, straws, trash, etc. into art!"
Stay tuned and enjoy. The students will be creating flowers and sculptures from around the world to incorporate our school theme.
Would you like to help our AMAZING Art Teacher, Mrs. Lentz, with a big student art project??
Mrs. Lentz needs bottle caps of various colors and sizes with NO writing on the top!!
She also needs clear/translucent colored plastic bottles for this amazing project!!
A message from Mrs. Lentz!
Hello Ethridge Families!
I'm collecting Bottle Caps for a large bottle cap mural and I need your help. Can you please start collecting clean, colorful bottle caps and translucent and transparent bottles. I have attached a photo of what we need for our art projects. I do not need caps with writing on them or clear water bottle caps.
Thank you in advance.
P.S. I plan to have parents bring bottle caps for our Oct. 5th Safety, Health, and Wellness in person Family night so that they can be added to the mural. 😊

Meet Office JD Simmons, School Resource Officer in TC!
Hello Ethridge Parents! I’m Officer JD Simmons with The Colony Police Department and I am the SRO (School Resource Officer) for Ethridge Elementary. I have been a Police Officer for 24 years and have been serving our community since 2006. This is my seventh year serving as an SRO for LISD, and my fourth year to serve the kiddos and staff at Ethridge. I am very excited to see the return of all our kiddos and am looking forward to a safe and wonderful school year!
For those unfamiliar with the SRO program, SROs are Police Officers tasked with the responsibility of maintaining safety, security and crime prevention for the campuses he or she serves. Additionally, and equally as important, SROs serve as mentors and role models as they strive to build strong, healthy relationships with the children of our community at a young age in a positive environment.
A common misconception is that Police Officers are placed on school campuses because the campus is deemed unsafe or crime ridden. This is not true. Another is that SROs are used as tools of intimidation or enforcers for the staff, and make arrests as often as they can. ALSO false. SROs work closely with the school’s administration to seek out all other alternative options of discipline/consequences in lieu of making arrests. Basically, SROs work harder keeping our children out of the juvenile criminal justice system, then it would be to just arrest and transport them to Denton Juvenile Detention when they commit a crime.
Having the ability to interact with our youth on a daily basis, along with working in partnership with our dedicated administrators and educators has truly been the highlight of my career! I take great pride in what I do and appreciate your confidence and support. I welcome you to contact me directly should you ever have any questions or concerns.
