Happy Friday, Lil Steamer Families!
April 3, 2020
From the desk of: Principal Hoese
Dear Lil Steamer Families,
The first week of Remote Learning is done! Thank you all for your continued efforts in supporting student learning during this most unfortunate time. Know that all of the teachers, staff, and administration are missing our wonderful kiddos every day. I know I am looking forward to the day to give fist bumps and hugs once again!
Here are the most recent updates regarding the Greatest Little Elementary School in the Universe (aka Fulton Elementary School):
Gov. Pritzker extended school closures through April 30; our current return date is set for May 1.
KWQC and the Clinton Herald recently ran stories on our district and our school; be sure to check them out!
Remote Learning Changes:
Based off of parent feedback received already, a few changes have been made to our Remote Learning procedures.
Students will receive two emails by 4:00 PM on Sundays detailing the upcoming week’s Remote Learning lesson plans.
One email will be from either the homeroom teacher or special education teacher.
The second email will be from an automated account - specials@riverbendschools.net
Specials include Art, Music, PE, Social Emotional Learning (SEL), & 5th Grade Band.
Art, Music, PE, SEL, & 5th Grade Band lesson plans each have 1 lesson per week.
If you are in assistance of meals, please sign up with the Food Request March 30 and beyond form - no need to sign up again if you have already done so.
Lastly, please take a moment to help us improve the Remote Learning experience for our students. Please complete the Parent Remote Learning Feedback survey.
Please reach out to your respective teachers if you have any questions or concerns with Remote Learning. We are doing our best to be flexible with each family dynamic during this process.

From the Desk of SRO Leitzen
I hope you are all staying safe while practicing your social distancing skills during this current COVID-19 situation.
While I have currently been called back to patrol due to school not being in session I wanted you to know that I am still available for our River Bend students and families in the event that a need arises, you can contact me at the Fulton Police Department at (815) 589-3617. My email is another way to contact me at jeremy.leitzen@cityoffulton.us
I hope to see all of you soon and get back to NORMAL living and learning.
From the desk of: Counselor Mrs. Meumann
I miss seeing the FES students each day. I want all of you to know that I am available to talk to them as needed. I can set up online sessions. I’ve encouraged all of our students to reach out to me via email if they need to talk. Please feel free to contact me if you feel that your child needs to talk about anything, whether it be family issues, anger, anxiety, etc. You can contact me at tmeumann@riverbendschools.net. I’ve attached the video greeting that I sent to our students this past week.
These are challenging times and now more than ever I want to be able to help those students who are struggling.

Low Cost Internet
River Bend Families,
River Bend has secured donors to cover the cost of internet for families that do not currently have internet. Principals will reach out to the families and provide assistance in setting up internet access.
As of today, March 31st Mediacom is waving the first two months of fees for families that do not currently have Internet. If connectivity is needed beyond two months for school purposes, arrangements can be made to assist with payments.
I spoke with Mediacom today by calling the 1-855-904-2225 phone number and was able to talk to a representative within minutes and Mediacom will help set up access and walk new customers through the process of signing up. I also spoke to the Clinton, IA Mediacom office and Mediacom estimates two to three days to get services started.
Families will need to complete the following steps to set up internet access.
Contact Mediacom at https://mediacomc2c.com/ or call 1-855-904-2225
Complete the application on-line to connect to services or call.
When financial assistance is needed, contact the building principal.
FES - Jeffrey Hoese - jhoese@riverbendschools.net
RBMS - Kathleen Schipper - kschipper@riverbendschools.net
FHS - Robert Gosch - rgosch@riverbendschools.net
Notify the building principal when access is set up.
If we can be of any assistance please do not hesitate to contact,
Stay safe and well,
Darryl Hogue

Schmaling Memorial Public Library - E-Books
Everyone with a library card is able to access ERead IL to check out e-books. All Riverbend students can get a library card for free, regardless of where they live. Schmaling Memorial Public Library has a school district roster and is able/willing to issue cards remotely.
Schmaling Memorial Public Library suggested reaching out to her directly for more information at fulpublib@mchsi.com.
Virtual Art Show!
FES faculty staff and families,
For the next six Saturdays I will be displaying students artwork by grade. This week's presentation is from the students in 5th grade.
I think you will be impressed with the artwork.

FULTON’S 2020 DUTCH DAYS FESTIVAL IS CANCELLED
The Fulton Dutch Days Festival Committee has announced the cancellation of the 46th annual Festival, scheduled for May 1 and 2, 2020.
The Committee, following consultation with the Mayor, City Administrator, Whiteside County Health Department, and Dr. Stephen Harrison, the City’s Medical Director, decided to cancel this year’s Festival. The decision to cancel complies with the recommendations and directives of the CDC, Illinois’ Governor Pritzker, and the White House Coalition Team.
This decision is made out of concern to keep residents, visitors, and volunteers safe during this period of time when social distancing becomes a necessity. Many of our local businesses and organizations enjoy participating and benefit financially during the Festival so we encourage everyone to support them when the restrictions are lifted from our daily routines.
Our theme this year, “THE 75TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE LIBERATION OF THE NETHERLANDS” will carry over to next year’s Dutch Days Festival and interested parties are encouraged during the year to read the book, OPERATION CHOWHOUND,” by Stephen Dando-Collins which will be a focus on the theme.
See you next year—May 7 and 8, 2021.
Barbara Mask, Chairman
Fulton Dutch Days Festival Committee
