Ms. Harris' Weekly Update
August 21st-25th
What's Happening This Week:
- Science: This week we are going to look at what a scientist is and what one does. Students will learn lab safety and get to see different science tools. Next week, students will get to participate in a few different labs to practice these process skills and safety rules. We are asking parents to send in a pack of gum for the first lab on Monday. It can be any type of gum, but the more variety that we have the better the lab will be.
- Social Studies: Students will learn about the wooly mammoth and the Land Bridge Theory this week. On Friday, there will be a short mini-quiz on these two topics. Students will have notes in their IANS that they can study from starting on Wednesday.
- Mrs. Thurston's Math/ELA:This week in math, students will begin with place value. They will learn to read numbers into the hundred millions place and identify place and value using a place value chart. On Friday, students will have to read a set of numbers correctly to me for a quiz grade. This week in ELA we are going to be discussing how to choose just right books as well as start our new class novel, Tiger Rising! I will mainly focus on introducing reading workshop and what the students should expect to see/do every day. This week in Writing we are going to be setting up our writing notebooks and beginning to brainstorm story ideas. Students should have their writing notebooks covered in pictures, stickers, and/or words that evoke memories by Wednesday.
