Simon Elementary School Newsletter
December 2018
From the Principal
This is a time of year when many families engage in traditions such as family gatherings, making food dishes that are reserved for special occasions, watching sports, playing games, shopping, reuniting with special people that you don't see often, seeing light shows, and simply spending more time with your immediate family. However you as a family celebrate the holidays, it is a time for embracing peace, joy, and love. May you have opportunities to take in and appreciate the people surrounding you as well as the simple things that can provide great fulfillment. I wish you an enjoyable break and happy holidays!
Winter Weather Reminders
First, anytime that there is snow on the ground, students should have snow pants and snow boots for outside recess. In the event that students do not, they will still be able to have recess but will remain on the blacktop as long as there is no snow present.
Second, children should be dressed appropriately for the weather, including having a warm coat, hat, and gloves. Recess will be outside unless windchill values are 15 degrees or less.
Third, please use greater caution when driving through the parking lots for drop off when the pavement may be covered with snow.
Fourth, if weather conditions warrant school closure or early dismissal, please stay tuned to local media outlets, including WIFR-TV, WREX-TV, WTVO-TV, AM1440, and the school district website: www.winnebagoschools.org. In cases of weather-related closures or dismissals, a district-wide all call will also be made to inform people of the closing.
