Big News At Maple Hill!!!!
Dear Maple Hill Families,
Maple Hill receives a TOP NATIONAL HONOR!!! Maple Hill has been recognized as a Project Lead The Way (PLTW) Distinguished School for providing broad access to transformative learning opportunities for students through PLTW Launch. Maple Hill is one of just 404 elementary schools across the U.S. to receive this honor.
The PLTW Distinguished School recognition honors schools committed to increasing student access, engagement, and achievement in their PLTW programs.
Studies show that students decide as early as elementary school whether they like, and think they are good at, math and science. Whether designing a car safety belt or building digital animations based on their own short stories, PLTW Launch students engage in critical and creative thinking, build teamwork skills, and develop a passion for and confidence in STEM subjects. Maple Hill is ecstatic to receive this accolade, but more importantly, we are proud to offer our students a comprehensive STEAM experience that will positively impact their learning journeys.
In partnership,
Ms. Morris
"Ms. Morris, when can we pick up our child's belongings from school and drop off their school supplies?"
Many of our students left lunchboxes, jackets, and school supplies in their classrooms. Once it is safe to open the campus to large groups and we are allowed to do so, we will share a schedule and plan that will allow you to retrieve these items and return school property. No items have been removed from classrooms and the school is secure. Thank you for your patience.
"Ms. Morris, what will the school be doing for our graduating 5th graders?"
The 5th grade teachers, Parent Committee, and I are working diligently on developing memorable end-of-the-year activities and purchasing gifts to honor our students. We are working within the paramaters set forth by our Public Health Department. More information will be provided to parents in the upcoming weeks. If you would like to volunteer and assist the Parent Committee, please email Saralie Ekowibowo at mphclassof2020@gmail.com.

Text Mrs. McNeil For Answers

If you need translation services, our Bilingual Aides, Mrs. Yi (Korean translator), and Mrs. Hsu (Mandarin translator) will also be available to assist in the conversation. Mrs. McNeil's hours will be Tuesdays and Thursdays, 10-11 am, and 1-2 pm. "Controlling Emotions" A Read Aloud With Our School Counselor, Ms. Chavez
Your child will incorporate the idea of 'I Can Handle It' almost immediately after reading this book, even in our current uncertain times.
After reading this book, they will have great ideas for how to ‘handle’ tough situations!
- When they are tired of having to stay home, they will think 'I can handle it'!
- When they are missing their friends, they will think 'I can handle it'!
- When they are feeling worried about the future, they will think 'I can handle it'!
Even if they aren't saying the words out loud, this mantra will become a part of their self-talk.
Positive self-talk is vital for improving and maintaining strong mental health which is exactly what the world needs right now.
Help your child feel emotionally strong along with Sebastien, and provide a tool to help them get through these challenging times.
Ms. Chavez shares some breathing techniques for students. Breathing helps many of our students handle and cope with their stress and anxiety.
