Hour of CODE
This week, our students are participating in a worldwide challenge to teach the basics of computer programming through the help of Code.org! These skills will not only help our students have a better understanding of how a computer program works, but reinforce problem solving skills, and collaboration in an engaging activity. There are ways that you can support this outside of school with the following links, which are located on our website under ‘Students’ à ‘Hour of Code Links’.
Storytelling Festival
I'm so excited for the Storytelling Festival on Thursday! (I was out sick last year!) This is an annual even here at Claxton. We bring in storytellers from all over to to tell stories to the students. We will be hearing stories from the following tellers this year:
- Leon Stewart
- Jonathon Santos
- Tommy Hayes
- Becky Stone
- And Claxton teachers- Mr. Godleski & Mr. Compton
Winter Dance
The school dance is THIS Thursday from 3:00pm-4:15pm. This is a great fundraiser for the 4th and 5th grade field trips. Please sign up on This Google Doc to send in items/ or volunteer to help work the dance.
How is the Reading Log coming?
Your child was given a December calendar last week. On that calendar they need to record how many minutes they read each night. Reading can include reading independently, being read to, reading to a younger sibling etc. Each child is REQUIRED to have read and recorded 100 minutes a week with an adult initialing each day read. (about 20 min. per week day) Once they have read- they should do a reading response. 4 Responses are due on Friday.
Headphones/ Earbuds
4th Graders have access to a lot of great technology at Claxton. However- headphones are hard to keep around. For this reason (and sanitation) - I would love if each child had their own headphones or earbuds to use in class. The students can keep them in their bookbag in a ziploc/pouch- and take them out when they need them.
If you are able to donate an extra set for the class please do! If you are unable to send in headphones please let me know and I'll make sure your child has what they need. Thank you :)
