Sixth Grade Newsletter
November 25, 2018
Dear Parents,
Here's what's happening at school this week:
English
We will do some non-fiction reading this week and learn different ways to annotate what we read. Students will be thinking about how authors confirm and challenge their readers' thinking. We will also talk about the different formats that can be used in non-fiction writing.
We will continue our study of grammar and root words, and there will be a quiz on Friday.
Mrs. Garver will be in Chicago at the National Council of Social Studies Conference with Mrs. Muladore Wednesday-Saturday.
Enrichment Writing
Math
During the short week, students compared absolute values, and made a bar graph that showed the frequency of birthdays for each month of the year for 6th graders. Homework due on Monday, November 26th is page 175(2-9) and page 176(1-6). This week, students will start off with 3 lessons related to the coordinate plane. They will include plotting rational numbers, Next, investigating the ordered pair relationships, and they will also learn how to find the distance between two points. Students will also have an opportunity to retake the chapter 3 quiz on Monday or Tuesday.
Enrichment Math
Students learned about similar figures. They practiced questions that helped them determine if two figures were similar. This week, students will get a little more practice with this concept.
Social Studies
Science
Students have a quiz this Tuesday on labeling the cell parts and knowing their functions. We will then move into how cells have specialized jobs.
