MVLA UPDATE
May 4, 2022
Dear MVLA Community,
We want to share information about the appointments for the new principals for both Mountain View and Alta Vista high schools, along with an update on this year's summer school offerings. We're also pleased to present our final Brown Bag webinar of the season - this one on our district's Climate Committee - you won't want to miss it!
If you haven't yet downloaded the MVLA app, we encourage you to do so and receive up-to-date information from your school on your mobile device. Be in the know at all times!
Sincerely,
Mountain View Los Altos High School District

COVID INFORMATIONAL UPDATE
We are reaching out as we are seeing an uptick in COVID cases within the County. We want to bring this information to you as we are suggesting that students and staff start testing again weekly and assume a close contact status.
We know that there are many important school-related events that students are looking forward to as well as important exams coming up. Proactive COVID testing is the best prevention that we have available. We ask that students and families start weekly testing to preserve our ability to run planned events and school activities in the manner we are currently able to.
Our FAQ has been updated along with the regular updates on our Dashboard. Thank you to the entire MVLA community for being so diligent. Because of your responsiveness, we have been able to mitigate the spread of COVID in school and are hopeful that this pattern continues.
SUMMER SCHOOL
MVLA will again host an in-seat summer school and offer summer classes online through Adult Education.
- In-seat classes will be offered at Los Altos High School. These courses are for remediation only, so registration is limited to students who received a D, F, or Incomplete in a course during the school year.
- Registration for the online health course is first come, first served. Registration for any class other than health requires your student to get prior approval from their academic counselor.
Applications are due Friday, May 13, 2022. Learn more here!
BROWN BAG WEBINAR ON MVLA'S CLIMATE COMMITTEE
PANELISTS SOUGHT FOR FREESTYLE ACADEMY PORTFOLIO PRESENTATIONS
We are asking community professionals who are active in the creative arts to consider serving as a panelist. Their tasks would be to:
- Review student work through a provided student webpage starting May 17, 6:00 to 8:30 PM.
- After each student's presentation, provide them feedback about the projects and presentation.
- Provide feedback to Freestyle staff to help answer two essential questions - 1) Is the Freestyle Academy program on the right ‘track’ about what and how they are teaching students about the creative arts? 2) What could staff do better to prepare students for a job in the creative arts?
Interested community members are asked to please complete this form by May 9, 2022. For questions, please contact Leo Florendo, Freestyle Academy Program Coordinator.
MAY IS MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS MONTH
May is Mental Health Awareness Month, intended to raise awareness about mental health. We wanted to highlight a few tools for supporting our wellbeing, and share a few upcoming events and resources. Much like physical health, we all have mental health, and it is important to strengthen our resiliency through proactive and preventative self-care. Learn more.
