April 2-April6
In reading this week we are doing a novel study with the book, Night of the Twisters by Ivy Ruckman. Most of the reading will be done in class together, but they may need to read some at home as necessary to get through the book this week.
In regular math, we are wrapping up Unit 4. We are currently dividing fractions and using this concept in word problems. Students will be taking a quiz at the end of the week.
In accelerated math, students are beginning a unit on geometry. They will be looking at perimeter and area of polygons and also decomposing polygons.
In writing, students are working on typing up summaries for their March book report as well as making a book pyramid. These will be displayed at Open House for you all to see.
In word study, students are working on the diphthongs (oo, ou, ow) and the vowel team digraph (ea). Please make sure your child studies these words this week in preparation for their test on Friday.
We finished up our unit on weather in science, and have moved back to social studies. Students are jigsawing chapters 11 & 12 this week. We will read chapter 13 together before moving onto chapter 14 & 15 on the Civil War.
Spring pictures are on Wednesday, April 4. Also just a reminder that Open House is on Wednesday, April 11 from 6:00-7:00. I hope to see many of you there.
Breakout EDU Right before spring break we participated in a Brekout EDU with Mrs. Ranucci in the LMC. Students were given clues that they had to decipher to figure out the codes for 4 different locks. The students collaborated so well while partaking in this fun, timed activity. | Breakout EDU Success The students figured out all the clues and opened all the locks in the nick of time. Once they opened the box they discovered Roz the robot from the book The Wild Robot. | Peter Brown Visit Peter Brown, the author of the Wild Robot visited students in the LMC. He shared about how he got interested in drawing, and how that led to him becoming an illustrator and author. The students were very engaged during his presentation. |
