Caruso Connect - September 23
Caruso Middle School is an inclusive and vibrant community where Blue Jays take ownership of their social-emotional and academic growth by supporting, challenging, and celebrating self and others.
Good Evening Blue Jay Families:
Today in class your student received a proof sheet for school pictures that were taken this Fall. If you would like your student to participate in retakes they are October 7th. Students should report to school dressed for photos and they will be taken first thing in the morning.
Last week we let you know that we are working to make sure that your students and you are more aware of what we have to offer at Caruso. On October 6th all students will be able to attend the activities fair during lunch. Here students will be able to learn about all of the clubs, activities, and sports we offer at Caruso! Below you will find a list of extra curricular activities arranged by when they meet. We will update this when new things start and others end.
Finally, when picking up your student from school for an appointment or to leave early, we are asking that you come to the front door to ring the bell. The staff in the office is doing this to confirm that you have arrived and your student will be sent out. Once we confirm that you have arrived, you are welcome to wait in your car for your student. If you have any questions, please reach out to us.
We hope you enjoy your long weekend,
Tim, Jim, Caitlin & The Caruso Staff

SEL Student Survey
(Communicated 9/23/22)
Building students’ social-emotional learning (SEL) skills is important at Caruso Middle School. As a part of the learning process, we will be asking our students to reflect on their own SEL mindsets via an online survey. The survey will be administered between October 3rd and 14th, and it should take no more than 20 minutes to complete. It asks students to self-reflect on their own grit, growth mindset, self-efficacy, self-management, social awareness, emotional regulation, and supportive relationships.
Individual student responses can provide the school and family with insight into what skills the child self-identifies as strengths and others they would like to develop. The overall data helps us (the educators) identify priorities and provide targeted learning opportunities to address the SEL needs in our classrooms.
Per policy, if you would like your child to opt out of taking the survey, please contact Tim Brodeur (tbrodeur@dps109.org) no later than October 1st.

Google Classroom Guardian Invitation
(Communicated 8/19/22)
You should receive a Google Classroom Guardian invitation by the end of the day Friday, August 19th. Accepting this invite will set things up so you start receiving email summaries of your child's Google Classroom classes. The email used to send the invitation is the one you've provided in Skyward. If you'd like the email changed, please contact your student's first period classroom (CORE) teacher (math, ELA, science, social studies).
Please watch this video to learn more about how Google Classroom Guardian Summary Emails work: https://youtu.be/ugSvRwEp99E
A few notes to help!
When accepting the invitation:
- To adhere to student privacy, guardians will not be joining the actual classes, so you won't need a class code or the Google Classroom app or Google Classroom login.
- When prompted, select DAILY as the frequency otherwise the email summary will be delivered only once a week. You can always change the frequency anytime: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HeLemCnYF1E
Please feel free to direct all questions regarding Google Classroom to our Innovation Curriculum Specialist, Maria Galanis mgalanis@dps109.org, and she will be happy to help.
Include the following information when contacting Maria:
Your child' name, school, grade, team, and first period core area teacher (math, ELA, science, social studies).
