Updates From The Principal!
Thank you all for your hard work, and fund raising efforts for our PTO Fun Run! We exceeded our goals and it is because of all of you! We appreciate all of the donations to support our art program sponsored by the PTO. Awesome job Cather Mustang families!
As we near winter months please remember to be a good neighbor when driving in our neighborhood, driving slowly, carefully and being patient with our traffic snags before and after school. We do open at 8:00 a.m. for students to arrive at school if traffic times are congested for you. Please remember not to drop off students before 8:00 a.m. unless they are participating in a club. It will be getting cold and staff do not arrive until 8:00 a.m. to let students in the building. We have had many traffic complaints about speeding, cutting people off, illegal parking and inappropriate gestures when drivers are angry. Remember, you have children watching how you handle traffic issues. Thank you for your patience and #bekind when dealing with traffic before and after school!
We have attendance challenges happening in all grade levels at Cather. Attendance and tardies have a significant impact on student achievement and this is our area that needs improvement. There are days we have an excess of 25 tardies. Students go to class at 8:20 and classes begin at 8:30 when the tardy bell rings. If your student arrives after 8:30, please come into the building and sign them in. Each month we will have an attendance challenge for grade levels by recognizing the highest percentage of attendance for the month earning extra recess. 4th Grade is the September winner! We are recognizing students for each month that have perfect attendance as well. There are plans for other awards recognizing students for being to school on time and having high levels of attendance. We appreciate your support making sure students are attending school and not having excessive absences.
Enjoy your weekend and thank you for supporting Cather Mustangs!

A message from our Counselor
Dear Parent/Guardian,
During the month of October classroom counseling lessons in grades K-5 will focus on skills of resilience, coping, and how to get help for oneself and/or a friend if needed. These lessons are intended to educate students on feelings of stress, worry, sadness, how to cope with such feelings and how to ask for help if needed.
Students will be identifying coping strategies and trusted adults at school and outside of school to whom they can go to for help. Any student who has difficulty identifying coping strategies and/or adults who can help will receive a follow-up visit with the school counselor to determine if additional steps are necessary.
Please talk with your child about these feelings and reinforce appropriate coping strategies such as talking with a trusted adult, exercising, positive self-talk or doing an activity they enjoy. Modeling appropriate reactions to stress and feelings of sadness in your own life and talking with your child about how to handle it in a healthy way can also help to empower your child to make healthy choices.
Please contact Mrs. Anderon at nganders@mpsomaha.org with questions. Thank you for your continued partnership in helping to ensure your child has a successful school year!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Nancy Andareon
