Message from the Principal
Thank you to all of you who came last week to pick up your district Chromebook in order to be prepared for the online continuous learning that starts today. We have heard from some of you that you may have gotten the wrong charging cord for your device. If that is the case, you will need to contact the technology department or visit the high school during deployment hours on Wed/Thurs (see information below).
As we jump into week 1 of our online learning platform, Canvas, you will see that we are starting small. This will give you, your child and teachers time to learn the new technology and set up routines for online learning from home. We have intentionally developed our elementary structure to be flexible to meet the needs of your schedule. You and your child can log in when it is most convenient for you.
Your child can access Canvas by going to the district website, https://www.monroe.wednet.edu/, hovering over the link that says "Students" and clicking on Canvas. Canvas is also available as a phone app. Once in Canvas, students should see that they have two courses. One that is labeled for their grade level/teacher and one that is labeled "Specialists". Have them go to the grade level/classroom course, this is where students will find their daily assignments each week. This week we are starting with a read aloud and i-Ready instruction.
The calendar on the front page shows the instructional activities we would like students to engage in each day, the extra buttons on the bottom will take students to additional optional activities they can do if they wish (optional).
The "Specialists" course is for students to access their PE, Music, and Digital Learning instruction. Students should check this page for their daily specialists activities.
If you have any issues with your Chromebook or need other technology assistance, the Technology Support Line is open from 7:00 am - 4:00 pm, Monday through Friday, by calling (360) 804-2520.
If you have not yet connected to the online learning, Continuous Learning Paper/Pencil Learning Menu Options are available at:
The paper learning supports are available every Tuesday at each elementary from 11:30-1:30 during lunch service. These supports are for families who are unable to engage with the online learning via Canvas, it is our hope that most families can engage with Canvas via their Chromebook, phone or other device. If internet continues to be an issue for your family, please see the resources listed below. You are also able to access wifi from our school parking lot. We are working closely with our district technology department on additional options.
We know the current situation is difficult for all of us, but has affected some of us more than others. If you are in need of food resources or other supports, please reach out to your child's teacher, they can work with our teams to coordinate support. Please don't hesitate to ask for what you need, we are here to help. You can also reach out to our school counselor, Michelle Simeoni at simeonim@monroe.wednet.edu.
As we embark on the next 10 weeks of online instruction, please give yourselves grace, we are all in this together. This isn't going to be perfect, learning will look different. Hold tight to the things that matter most - building and sustaining healthy relationships and showing your children they are loved.
Take good care!

Frank Wagner in the News
We were so pleased to have so many of our students come to last week's Chromebook deployment. We handed out over 372 Chromebooks to FWE students alone, and over 500 in total. It was a very successful day. Thank you to all the staff that made it possible. We have an UNSTOPPABLE staff!

Oxbow Farms Continues Partnership with FWE
You may have heard that Oxbow is providing produce during the school lunch distribution on Wednesdays. Our entire Kids’ Farm has shifted towards that effort this spring. Additionally, with the help of FWE's Mrs. Lovelace, plant seedlings are being offered to families who want to start growing food at home.
Oxbow Farms has started a new program that they're hoping educators, kids and families will participate in. It’s called the Earth Month Journal Challenge: http://www.oxbow.org/education/lessons-resources/journal-prompts/ Each week, we’ll be sharing a journal prompt. This week- it’s mapping! Check this out and participate yourself! Find us on Facebook on Instagram @OxbowCenter or use the hashtag #earthmonthjournalchallenge.

Assistance with meals and qualifying for other supports (i.e. reduced cost internet)
Families who qualify for Free and Reduced meals can get discounted internet rates from some carriers. If you have already qualified but need your confirmation letter, please email Tammy Gregory gregoryt@monroe.wednet.edu and she will send you your letter via email.
We know for many families their financial situation has changed dramatically. You can complete the Free/Reduced application at any time during the school year (see attached forms). One helpful benefit is your qualification will carry over to the first month of school which can assist you during this time of crisis.
Parents can pick-up/return forms to our staff during lunch pick up M-F 11:30am-1:30pm, leave them in the drop box at the district office, mail them to the district office or email them to Tammy Gregory gregoryt@monroe.wednet.edu.
Lunches
Lunches are available to pick-up from every elementary school (M-F) from 11:30 - 1:30. This is for ALL children ages 0 - 18. This is free of charge for EVERYONE - and there is no registration needed. Think of this as a way to take something off your plate. If not having to make lunch for the children will help you out, then please take advantage of these lunches. We love seeing all the kids, so it is good for us too when you choose to come for lunch! If you are unable to stop by Frank Wagner, Monroe School District is also providing lunch deliveries at several bus stop locations. See district website for locations.
