Ms. Genega's 7th Grade Science & Health Update
SCIENCE UPDATE!
Last several weeks...The 7th Grade Students have really been working hard in the second quarter. Many of our unit assessments have been activity and project based, including the Nervous System Ruler Drop Test, Endocrine System WebQuest, and Musculoskeletal Project (See Below). I have enjoyed seeing the students' critical thinking skills and self-advocacy improve, especially as we have approached the most exciting and memorable FROG DISSECTION! The frog dissection is taking place Wednesday through Friday of this week. I encourage you to talk to your child and discuss their experiences.
Upcoming news... When the students return from Winter Break, we will have moved on from Body Systems to learning about the structure of DNA. Students will build models of DNA, extract DNA from organisms (strawberries), and even participate in a debate on the de-extinction of the woolly mammoth! Stay tuned for the next newsletter at the end of January!

Health Update!
Currently, we are focusing on positive ways to deal with stress. Unfortunately not every student will be able to focus or follow the curriculum expectations and recommendations. Yet, I encourage parents/guardians to remind students of the positive, healthy stress management techniques that students can exhibit when they are stressed. These include breathing exercises, eating healthy, laughing with friends/family, adventure, forms of art, listening to music, playing music, and/or sports or other forms of exercise.
