Our Mission: To Engage
The High School English Department shares a passion for the transformative power of reading and writing in our lives. Through both high-interest texts and time-honored classics, we create engaging lessons that sharpen communication skills and prepare students for both college and career in an ever-changing world.
Our Courses: To Inspire
All courses integrate reading, writing, speaking, and listening, as well as research, around print and nonprint text to foster clear and deep thought. English 9 emphasizes college and career writing. English 10 emphasizes analytical reading of increasingly complex text, with students taking the PA Keystone Exam at the end of the course. Grades 11 and 12 offer students the opportunity to choose from among courses that complement their postsecondary goals: Myth and Modern Man, American Literature, Speech and Language, British Literature, Expressive Writing, AP Literature and Composition, and AP Language and Composition.
