A Message from Mrs. Franciosa...
The week started off with many students and staff awash in their Phillies red, white, and blue and ended with an exciting Friday night with our Trunk-or-Treat event!
Thank you to Home & School for another wonderful Trunk-or-Treat event. We are appreciative to all of the volunteers who organized the night and those who decorated trunks and donated candy. Everyone looked amazing in their costumes!
Next week we will have our first Spirit Week of the school year. You can find more detailed information in the newsletter.
We are currently collecting gently used PV and/or Evergreen Spirit Wear. Students and parents/guardians are welcome to drop off donations to the Evergreen main office at any time.
As a reminder, the students will not have school on Tuesday, November 8th.

5th Grade
October has been a busy month! Inspired by the Inventors described in the Into Reading texts, fifth graders are researching an inventor and through the writing process are developing an expository essay. As we progress into our next Module, students will be delving into narrative writing.
Math had the students focusing on numbers operations (we love PEMDAS!) and now they are currently learning to solve some pretty complex word problems. We will be moving on the fraction unit next - remember to study those math facts!
Science has us venturing into the world of engineering. Students are actively involved in the design process through hands-on STEM experiments. While thinking through the criteria and constraints of each challenge, they are building index card towers that must sustain weight, making rings solely out of Pringles, and have tried to avoid falling in “lava” as they make their way from one location to another using the Design Process.
Students have spent time in Social Studies learning about many famous explorers and will begin to look at the European settlement of the New World.

Flexible Instructional Days (FID) in 22-23
The Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) approved the use of Flexible Instructional Days (FID) as an alternate form of instruction in response to inclement weather or other emergencies. On a FID day, instruction will be virtual. FID assist schools in meeting the required 180 student days. PA Schools may use up to five (5) FID per school year - in PVSD, we will utilize FID when all 3 inclement weather days built into the district calendar are used.
