Yoga Day!
Still, a question remains. How and why is yoga beneficial for children and adolescents, and specifically, in the school setting? Research on yoga in schools has grown exponentially over the past 5 - 10 years, and while the results are still preliminary, scientists are beginning to understand why yoga serves as such a valuable component of school curricula nationwide.
Research suggests that school-based yoga cultivates competencies in mind-body awareness, self-regulation, and physical fitness, These competencies may lead to improvements in students’ behavior, mental state, health, and performance, as well as teacher resilience, effectiveness and overall classroom climate.
On Monday, November 20th we will have our first YOGA DAY here at Koenig Elementary! Please have your child wear comfortable clothes. Both Mrs. Hansen and Mrs. Slickman will lead us into relaxation!
What Is Going On In The Library Media Center?
A lot has been going on in the Library Media Center. Kindergarten students have been learning about what an author does and what an illustrator does. They have also been learning about what makes up a character in a story. First grade just finished up learning about how to find a “just right book” and the “five-finger-test”. They will be now learning about fairytales, folktales, and fables. Over the past few weeks Second grade learned about the parts of a book and will now be learning about the differences between fiction and nonfiction books. Third grade will be learning how to locate easy and fiction books in a library. Fourth grade will be learning about the Dewey Decimal system and how to locate nonfiction books in a library.
The Library Media Center’s website has a wealth of information. When you visit the website you will find resources on digital etiquette and internet safety games and resources. You will also find reading resources you can us with your children to help them become better readers.
