From the Principal
It is hard to believe that it is already May, and summer is just around the corner.
Thank you so much for your support of our Bookfit fundraiser! We are so excited to have raised money to support our wonderful library. We are so blessed to have the best librarian in the district, Ms. Buchert.
Our 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students will be taking the STAAR tests next week. Math STAAR for 3rd and 4th graders and 5th grade retesters is May 8th, Reading STAAR for 3rd and 4th graders and 5th grade retesters is May 9th, and Science STAAR for 5th graders is May 10th. No visitors are allowed for these three days, and there are no before or after school activities. Thank you for understanding.
We will be honoring our awesome Copeland volunteers at 9:30 on May 11th, with our Volunteer Appreciation Brunch in the library. Please join us. We appreciate you!

Copeland's Leaders of the Week
From the Nurse
The clinic is in need of a clinic coordinator for 2017-2018 school year. This is a two year or longer position. Main responsibility all year is to organize and schedule the certified and uncertified parents for the state mandated vision and hearing screening. This is usually the second week of September which requires touching base with parents at the end of summer and first weeks of school. Past coordinators will be happy to share their previous schedules and words of advice as well as Nurse Cheves. Being organized and a “go-getter done ” attitude are required, as well as having friends you can call in favors from!
Please call Nurse Cheves to express interest and discuss any questions you may have. Copeland Colts and the clinic needs you!
Appreciatively,
Chris Cheves RN

Credit by Exam
Students in grades K-5 will have four opportunities during the school year to use “credit-by-exam” to accelerate to another grade level. Students will only have one opportunity to test for each grade level considered.
To apply to take the test to skip kindergarten, a student must be 5 by September 1, and registered in a CFISD school. To apply to take the test to skip grade 1, a student must be 6 by September 1, and enrolled in a CFISD school.
Students who earn scores of 80% or better on each component of the credit-by-exam will qualify to advance one grade. Only one grade level may be “skipped” each year. No retests will be given.
If you are interested in getting more information about credit-by-exam, please contact the school counselor at 281.856.1400 or kathryn.nomura@cfisd.net.
